How rubbish of your company Kitten, I would ring the job centre and ask for their advice. Did your work give you a form to say you won't be getting SMP?

My HR manager didn't have a clue what she was on about regarding SMP, made me walk 20 minutes (3 days after I got out of hospital for my back) to tell me it all gets done over the phone.

My antenatal class on the 1st August has been cancelled as they don't have enough people for it, so it's next week now instead :o

I think I'm going to bake a cake today, trying to decide between a plain sponge, a chocolate sponge or a marble cake made with a mix of the two lol x

Just popping to say hi - not very good at keeping up with everything but am reading.

Just checked out the maternity entitlement at my place:

4 weeks at full pay - (which will include higher rate SMP)

2 weeks at 9/10ths of full pay - (which will include higher rate SMP)

12 weeks at half pay - (which will be in addition to lower rate SMP)

    Not too bad I think!

    Hope all are well :)

Anway, antenatal class last night was fantastic! Last nights explained what happens during the different stages of labour and also looked at pain relief. She did mention that whole pooing yourself thing and said it was one of her biggest fears (she's had 4 children) but she also said whatever is in there is coming out so there really is nothing you can do and you should try to just accept that it might happen. Was interested in what happens with the various pain relief to - think it would be great if I can manage without pethidin and I don't want an epidural but again she said that it depends what happens at the time and what the circumstances are. She aslo told us about the thirs stage of labour where you deliver the placenta; apparetnyl they give you an injection of systemetrine (I think!) before baby is born - as soon as the baby comes ut they then clamp the umbilical cord and then the midwives will push down on your tummy and pull at the cord and it will come away in about 5 minutes. However, if you were left to do this naturally baby wuld get more blood into his system from the umbilical cord which is obviously better for them. They reckon even leacving the cord for a just a few minutes is more beneficial (it takes around 15mins for the blood to flow back into baby). The placenta then takes about 40 mins to come out, although she was asked if you could have the best of both worlds - so start the third stage naturally, keep umbilical cord untouched for 15 mins and then have the injection and she said yes. I am so pleased that I went along to the class as now at least I will know why things are happening the way that they are and I will understand why certain drugs are used and what the choices are.

I decided to wait till the cord had stopped pulsating, and then see how I felt about the injection. As it was, by the time it had finished, the placenta was fairly near out, and I never bothered with it. I really liked doing it that way, and of course as they're still attached, you get to cuddle your baby while you wait. :D I've done it the other way too, and prefer the natural way. Make sure the midwife knows in advance that's what you want of course. :)

I know, they have only told me this because I was chasing for written confirmation.

Apparently they are still waiting for the form from my boss before they can send it to me, I gave her the form 2 months ago so can't really do much until I get that through although I do need to take my holiday, hopefully they will let me take it soon because to fit it in before Mini_Cub I need to start holiday in the next week or so. Which will be full pay for a month and a 1/2 awesome.

Have started the process to get my payslips, although a couple of months ago they overpaid me by £3K  I paid it back obviously but will be interesting to see if it is on my payslip cause that may help :p

i still need to read the HR letter properly as now i thought from 3months full pay, it is really 6 weeks. :( shame. this worried DH.

ok i will wait then and then if still there, ring that number tomorrow. sorry for the repetitive pain description.

need a holiday swim suit (maternity one). thing is where do i get one from and what size as i dont know anymore. i got my previous one from bravisimo but its too expensive.
