Rebekah, almost there! Could you perhaps suck on an ice-lolly or something? It's surely a clear liquid once it's melted??0
-
..... although do you want baby awake and co-operative or not trying to wake up / move? Perhaps a cold sugary ice lolly not such a good idea....0

Good luck rebekah. Let me know honestly how it is cos I'm not sure if I want it or not

Thanks girls for all your support, it really is invaluable to me.
Quick question which I know has been asked before about Maternity pay. I have just been informed that I won't get SMP (:() so I need to claim Maternity Allowance, I have 31 days holiday to take and the only way I will get the full Allowance is if this pay is taken into account. If I wait until I get that paypacket it will be after I want to start maternity leave.
Question: Can I do it and get it started straight away, how quickly does it take to process?
So annoying I thought it had all been sorted and was just waiting for written confirmation, nice that they left it 3 months of me chasing to let me knowOverdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

divorcingjack - yeah we have sped up the list quickly - wait until we are boldies!! i read somewhere that more midwifes nowdays arent as good at palpating your abdomen to check babies position and they rely on scans more. maybe just an underconfident midwife and she wants you scanned just to make sure.
i see midwife again this thursday and hope baby is still headdown. i am always trying to work out babies position but find it very hard.
re second stage of labour(the pushing stage) in my daising birthing class last night they were saying that pushing isnt that great as when you push you tense up and most of your energy goes into tension and not actually pushing your baby. she recommended bearing down rather than pushing and breathing while doing it.
http://www.rcmnormalbirth.org.uk/stories/if-at-first/second-stage-pushing/
article above you might want to read.
esp interesing is this paragraph -
The most common type of directive pushing uses breath-holding to increase and focus efforts. This is commonly know as the Valsalva manoeuvre. It involves taking a deep breath, holding it and straining downwards. However, it can reduce the woman's oxygen levels, and increase her carbon dioxide levels, with corresponding risks for the fetus.
i would like baby tnot come early as i have just ordered a hypnobirthing CD and want to get some use out of it!

Rebekah - good luck today!
Moneypuddle - fab link, thank you very much. Me and OH did some rough calculations at the weekend and we weren't far off. My company is a bit "haphazard" shall we say, so it is good to know what I'm meant to be getting compared to what I will actually get!
Finally pinned my OH down and we are going pram and car seat shopping on Sunday! So excited! Not looking forward to the drive though -- we're going to the Kiddicare in Peterborough from where we live in Essex. I'm dead set on going there though -- they have 20,000 square foot just of prams and lots of helpful assistants.
I lost count of the amount of times I got up in the night last night! Also had a hallucination dream (usually only get them when I'm stressed) where a big green spider dropped down from the ceiling on top of me, so I screamed, wrapped it up in the duvet, threw it at OH and jumped out of bed. Poor little lamb didn't know what was going on!
Today is my last day actually at my desk. My replacement came in 11 weeks ago cos my boss was terrified at being left in the lurch and she has been at another desk, but she's settling into my desk from tomorrow. Coincidentally, all the last year's files have been boxed up and sent to the accountant and they have done a big spring clean around me -- feels like my work life has just been boxed up! Got my leaving lunch on Thursday and am already feeling emotional!0 -
Kitten, I don't know the answer re holiday but for processing mine took about a month from application to first payment. It is probably usually a bit quicker but they had a backlog of about a week and then there was some mix up over my JSA. If you phone the maternity allowance department of the job centre they should be able to help you with your question about a/l. Their number is 0845 608 8610
