    Congratulations Nora! :j
Sounds like the process wasn't much fun, but good to hear that the end result is worth it...! ;) Hope you're not too sore x

RE disposable knickers, I just bought a couple of cheap packs of full briefs from Primark, in a size or two bigger than normal. I figured that being "granny style", they'd come up over my tummy scar if I ended up having a c-section, and they're big enough to contain the giant pads. Just didn't fancy the disposable pants. Having said that, I now have some as my friend gave me some that she didn't end up using.

    No queue-jumping, Triangle!! :naughty:
Seriously, though, hugs because that all sounds a bit stressful. Try to stay chilled and hopefully your BP will come down nicely. Hope you get the water birth you want :)

I did ask in M&Ps if they did the cot nets but I was told you cant get them due to the possibility of it coming off and smothering the child. How much this is the opinion of the woman in the shop I dont know.

My cot's going to be under the ceiling light (not that I use it much). I guess there's a possibility that the lampshade might fall off, land perfectly on my child's head and smother it :D

I suppose there might be some very determined cats who just sit on the net anyway which then sags down like a hammock bringing the cat's arse into contact with the baby's face, but I think we're into the realms of 'not really that likely', i.e. 'it's never actually happened'.

I can't help being a little bit paranoid about the cat and the baby even though it's not my normal attitude. It's simply something that's not worth taking a chance with isn't it?

That aside, Mamas & Papas may well take that stance [about cot nets] but John Lewis certainly doesn't. You can get them online for £16. They do them from prams too.

I usually get 12-14 in primark but they are getting too tight so I had to get the next size up which is 16-18  They don't do 14-16 for some reason. I got a box of five disposable knickers for £2.25 in boots so cheaper than five lairs of knickers even in primark

Ah ok ill head to boots today then! Are they papery? Don't want them to rip when I bend over :rotfl:Yea I find that with their sizes too. Infact right now the best pants are the plain black. White ones they do with lace round the top instead of elastic. As I find elastic really digs in my bump. Can't recommend the lace enough :D I think the lace is heart shaped? Or something similar like that.

I've bought a large net that should cover the cot, pram or moses basket. The main reason for buying it was actually to keep insects off if I want to take baby out into the garden with me. Also there are lots of trees which have a habit of dropping small twigs/apples/plums etc!

Just had a look, they are not papery but kind gauze like IYSWIM but I bought the 14-16 and they are a bit small  but that's probably my huge ever expanding @ss that's to blame!

With the knicker thing - I actually just took all my laundry-crisis pants of last resort in and used it as an excuse to treat myself to some new pants that actually had some elastic left in them! Normal size fitted me just fine and apart from the first day - the much promised pant-apocalypse never occurred. Same with clothes - I forget what the hell I laboured in - but I know the trackie bottoms I was wearing when my waters broke emerged unscathed and I don't remember anything getting trashed - even the stuff I'd bought with the intention of chucking away.

Think I avoided anything lacy or itchy to wear - but yeah I just murdered the dregs of my knicker drawer (it needed a clearout).

BB1984 the bits of twigs dropping made me laugh - I took the baby and the dogs out for a walk at the local nature reserve at the weekend - had the baby in a stretchy wrap (LOOOOOVEEE my Moby btw) and the poor girl kept getting leaves landing on her!

Any suggestions on how to get over the moses basket conundrum gratefully accepted! She falls asleep in my arms in no time, when I put her down in the moses basket, she starts whimpering after about 3 minutes. Will usually make plenty of "crying in her sleep" noises for anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes before she resorts to full on crying.

    Congratulations nora!

I'd just go with it personally. She's only a few days old - plenty of time to establish a routine. The world's a bright scary place and it's no wonder she prefers snuggling in your arms to lying in a moses basket on her own. She'll soon settle down. Just consign yourself to no sleep for a few weeks! Thing to remember with babies - no phase lasts for long. She'll be in her basket next week and you'll be asking for advice about something else!

Can you explain about the different bf techniques you were shown? Sounds interesting and I want to know which one worked.

Re. knickers, I'm just going to wear the ones I've been wearing throughout my pregnancy (they weren't my favourites anyway) and ditch them if they get trashed. *

Baby or no baby, I refuse to wear pants made out of paper. I do have some standards.

    * Just realised that this sounds like I've worn the same pair of knickers for nearly nine months. Rest assured, I mean style of knicker, not single pair.

Morning all, one day until my due date and he's still not engaged :( looks like it's going to be a while until I get mummy cuddles - unless anyone has a sure fire way of getting him to engage?

Congratulations Nora, sounds like a rough ride but getting your baby girl must make it worth while :) My friend's little girl has only just started to sleep properly in the moses basket (after 6 weeks) so it may just take time. One thing which the MW suggested to my friend was that baby may be getting too warm so my friend stopped dressing baby in anything other than a nappy and it seems to work.

    *hugs* to LLM.

I've finally finished packing my hospital bags (one for me, one for baby). For baby I've packed nappies, cotton wool, a couple of bodysuits, a hat and a shawl.
For me, a couple of pairs of pajamas which are old enough that I don't mind destroying, sanitary towels, breast pads, disposable knickers, lanolin cream, slippers, dressing gown, face cloths, muslins, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, brush, Simple shower gel, hair bobbles and hair grips because my hair is long and will irritate if it gets in my way.

Haven't put something to come home in because I'm likely to be in a few days and the hospital is just around the corner so will get my OH to grab something once I know where I'm sore.
Also have phone charger, pack of cards, prescription strength paracetomol and codeine tablets in case I end up having to go in early and the mws are too busy to give me drugs, camera with a large SD card, notebook and pen, dextrose tablets, a couple of lunchbox sized orange juice cartons and mints.
Unique to my bag is also my antiepileptic medication and a watch with alarms to remind me to take them.
Just need to shove in my notes, purse, phone and keys before I leave :)

Had to use my breastpads for the first time last night - I was quite violently sick and apparently that's a good way of getting my breasts to leak impressively :p

Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl nora - hope you're recovering from the birth well and not too sore.

Well I've just spent the morning trawling the internet for white bedroom furniture for the nursery/spare room that has solid bottoms to the drawers (as in not the fibreboard that we currently have that bows and ends up not fitting). Has anyone come across any nice white bedroom furniture on their travels? We're not fussed about it being children's furniture, as we'd like it to be able to be used for the long term. We were given some money for our wedding last year that we'd like to use towards it, so it doesn't have to be the cheapest of the cheap, but at the same time, we don't want to spend an absolute fortune on it either. I've had a look at the provence range on pine solutions, and that seems to be quite good, but wondered if there was anything else out there?
