I think I'm going to get a nice comfy ball to sit on. Does everyone have proper pregnancy ones or are the gym ones just as good? Where is the best place to get them and what sort of price? Going to try and order today so it's here when I'm back from France.0

Good luck Turtlemoose!
I have a question on sterilisers. I was thinking of getting the Philips Avent SCF271/51 Microwave bottle steriliser which is only £16.84 on Amazon and has really good reviews. Has anyone used it and would they recommend it or another one particularly?
I was going to post the link here but it doesn't come up properly, are we not allowed to post links to external sites?
Also would anyone recommend a breast pump, and if so which one? I don't want to spend too much but heard that electric ones are better than manual. But I've been told that expressing milk is actually pretty hard work and many mothers prefer the convenience of breastfeeding. I'd like to have the option though so that my husband could feed the baby as well and give me a break
Thanks guys!
Avent steriliser - careful - doesn't fit easily in all microwaves (yes I fell foul of this one), we had to take the plate out to get it into ours. In the end we decided rapidly it was too much faff and went out to hunt down a ye olde bucket o'Milton type steriliser which works much better for us.
Electric pumps - used the Medela ones in the hospital - they're fantastic, but pricey - but you can hire them out on a monthly basis at least... bought an Avent electric one when we came home - it's crap, started to develop faults within a fortnight.
As for the Athlete song - had it running through my head a lot of the time Erin was on NNICU.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
No baby new
Big fuss yesterday, got put in a private high dependency room, had two doctors and a midwife (plus a student). Was checked every 15 mins .... Obviously no nonsense or being kept waiting around when you're classed as high risk on the delivery suite!!!
Anyway, BP, for the first time ever in hospital DROPPED. Not ony that, but it stayed consistently low. Baby monitoring was fine, and they tested urine and found in the space of an hour the protein had halved. Full set of bloods (rushed through as urgent) came back perfectly fine, and BP actually dropped to within normal levels by this point.
Doctors were a bit baffled, but after an internal they said they were pleased I had gone from completely closed thurs afternoon to being able to do a successful sweep only two days later.
So...after scratching their heads a bit they said as BP, baby, urine and bloods were all normal then I should really go home!!!!!
I'd already had a show sat morning, and ever since the sweep ive had more and more of it, and it's bloody (sorry tmi!). Lots of twinges in the stomach and constant back ache that increases and decreases but is always at a certain low level.
I'm quite gutted as although it wasn't what I wanted, I had accepted that I was going in to hospital to be induced, and the midwife had said I wouldn't be coming home until I'd had baby - so to be sent home only 4 hours later I was disappointed to say the least!!!! And what a lot of fuss over nothing really!!!!
If the sweep doesn't work they have brought forward my induction to Tuesday, so I'm just desperately bouncing/rocking on my gym ball and hoping for things to get a wriggle on!!
Sorry to disappoint everyone, blame the midwife for getting it wrong lol!!0 -

On a brighter note, no one wants pre-eclampsia and, if you can labour naturally, your chances of having some sort of intervention like forceps are lower.

I just got one from eBay. I think I typed birthing ball in and the one I got was cheapest. TBH I think it's just a gym ball but as long as its anti burst it's ok. If you are taller you need a bigger size as you won't be comfortable on a standard one. Mine I think was about £9ish and came with a pump.

Sorry to hear you're home again turtlemoose - it must be really frustrating for you. Hugs. Pleased to hear your bp etc have stabilised though.
Came over all dizzy and hot again whilst sat here this morning and after thinking I was going to be sick and wasn't I went back to bed for a bit. My Mum has just popped in on her way back to town, so we've been talking about the course I've been on and she's borrowed the material to read as she's interested in this area. I'm sure she should have done a degree in it when she was younger, although I suppose when she left school, pyschology wasn't such a popular subject. Still, I suppose now she's retired, she could always do a distance learning course or similar. Need to go and shower and dress and get to the supermarket before they close - hope they've got some stuff left with all of the jubilee parties going on and the seige conditions that bank holidays always seem to bring on. Must eat something too.
Hugs to all who need or want them.

Agree with Emsbet about the Medela Pump. I've heard so many people complain about there Tommee Tippee/Avent pumps being rubbish.
I bought my Medela Swing for £100, but bought it at a Boots Christmas Event, so actually got it for around £75 if you include the points I got.
I re-sold it on Ebay a few weeks ago and got £51 for it. I did sell a few extras, like 3 extra collection bottles, and nursing pads, but still a great returnI'd recommend the medela to anyone, it really is great, don't even start me on a manual pump, I tried it once, and it took me forever to get anywhere near an oz.
Also if you buy it in advance and don't take it out the box, it'l go for £80/£90 on Ebay, that's how much brand new were going for when I sold mine. Also keep the receipt, they have a year guarantee so if you're going to sell it before then, you can give that with it, I did. xThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
another one backing the medela - also had a manual myself and it was rubbish. i imagine if you are an experienced breastfeeder its fine to use a manual, but for me the medela most closely replicated baby during feeds, and once everything got settled i could get 4-5oz from one breast in a 10 minute session with the medela. i had mine second hand from ebay, and sold it on for what i paid for it, as anything that touches milk or breast can be sterilised anyway. this time around my dear best friend has just finished BF her son so i am having a borrow of hers.0

I got my ball in tk maxx. £5 with pump. Watch out cos some on eBay don't have pumps. Also watch the sizing. Taller people need a 65cm. I'm 5"7 and this is what I have. You can also get a 55cm onelove you lots like jelly tots0

Just popped out and got a ball from Argos. Will hopefully do the job. Also had a naughty pub lunch and choc fudge cake for dessert.
Sorry you're home again turtle. I'm sure it won't be long for mummy cuddles.0
