I have about 15 blankets and probably use a good chunk of them.
Pram, car seat, cuddling on the couch, cot, moses basket. Some blankets will take a while to dry, and with sick, milk etc landing on them often, I'd say get a couple more. You will more than likely get loads as gifts. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Hello all
Hope everyone's well - I've finally managed to read through the 40 or so pages that I'd missed; I was only 10 days behind...
Thanks to everyone for all your good wishes and congratulatory messages
Big congratulations to Alizee and gtothec - hope you're enjoying your mummy cuddles.
Emsbet, I remember you asking about baby books a while back. I can't recommend the Babycare Bible highly enough: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1904760511/ref=asc_df_19047605117939841?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&!!!!!hydra0b-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=1904760511&hvpos=1o1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4454100521831399329&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt= It's not the cheapest option, but it's worth every penny - it has lots of photos of practical hands-on stuff like 'how to' baby basics like bathing, swaddling, holding and handling etc. There's stuff on first aid and chapters on feeding, sleeping, crying and responding, baby month by month, caring for and interacting with older babies, keeping baby healthy etc. So it would also be useful when baby is a bit older - there are receipes and ideas for weaning, toodler-proofing your house etc. Although I agree that 'Your baby week by week' is useful, I find it harder to dip in and out of.
Our little girl was one week old yesterday, so we marked the occasion at 7.47pm (the time when she was born) with milk for her, beer for the OH and water for me  (hmmm.... am thinking I got a raw deal there...) We're really enjoying getting to know her and all her little facial expressions, and although I'm veeeery tired I wouldn't change a thingI'll be moving over to the newborn thread, but will no doubt lurk and sometimes post here too - I'll want to know how everyone's getting on!
Labour vibes to those who want them and hugs to those who need them x
PS: Forgot to mention that my overexcited friend, who I told you about a couple of weeks ago, texted me the morning after my c-section asking if I was home yet and when she could come and visit! Ahem, still unable to get out of bed, still attached to a catheter... not quite ready for visitors yet...0 -
One thing I would suggest adding to the list of things to buy: maternity mats. I got mine from Boots (they come in a pack of five), but I'm sure they'll be available in a range of shops. TMI alert - I didn't have a vaginal delivery, but I've still had a couple of blood-related accidents at night (despite thick maternity pads) and the mats have protected the mattress (along with the shower curtain from Poundland, which would hopefully have saved the mattress if my waters had broken in the middle of the night). I imagine they could also be useful for protecting car seats if you're leaking water on the way to the hospital. Not glamorous and nowhere near as exciting as baby clothes, but you'll be glad you bought them0

 we've slipped onto the second page! Where is everyone tonight?
I've got horrible backache between my shoulders again
Been watching little man make my tummy dance this afternoon
Not much else going on, we went out for lunch today and did some food shopping. This afternoon I've been looking for cheap baby items and getting totally confused about which breast pump and which steriliser I should buy!

If you're gonna buy a breast pump and plan on using it a fair bit, I'd go with a medela, even the mini electric is supposed to be fab.
They re-sell really well too, I re-sold mine for £52 and £7 postage on Ebay and had bought it for £99.99 at a Boots Christmas event where we got £20 back, so really I spent next to nothing on it.
I did try a manual and took me an age to even get an oz, and I had good supply, over supply even :rotfl: My medela swing was amazing I could get 2oz from each breast in about 10 minutes.
If you're using MAM bottles I'd just go with any microwavable steriliser, whichever you can get cheapest, as the easiest way to sterilise those bottles with all there parts is self sterilising in the microwavethe only thing you'd be using it for would be dummys/breast pump.

Hi, still here but nothing to add today.
Started a bee blog to contain my bee enthusiasm. Never written one before so having to learn quickly and hope it isn't too boring.
Emsbet I have a Nuby manual breast pump but then I got it free last year from a competition so going to give that a go. Never used it so can't add any review.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

im a football widow so been looking at washable nappies on ebay !
ive already won a bundle but just scanning for bargains now
As for breast pump/steriliser Ive ordered the Tommee Tippee one which ive used in the past, wasnt overly impressed but I did like the steriliser and bottles that match the set so went with it,
ive also used the avent and im not a fan, it just seemed to be quite cheap and was hit and miss whether it worked !
Im sat on the sofa feeling disgusted with myself right now, i smell so badmy guts ache and there is a green fog in the room
