  • Twinklie I took advantage of the vouchers yday. I'm sure there's another one normally in the summer, but just incase there's not I went yday. The way I think of it is that it's all free as I didn't pay with money :D Mainly bought nappies as we have most "big" things. I'll be 24 weeks on Wednesday :)

Why don't you share your list with us? Then maybe we can suggest things, or you might have something one of us haven't thought of?

    Welcome Kavics and congratulations.

Morning, well afternoon to everyone else. Hope you're having a good weekend. OH hasn't felt the baby move since he thought he did the other day, but this morning baby was bouncing around and he felt loads of moving/kicking so we're both happy today.

    Afternoon ladies :)

We went to the baby show at the NEC this morning, it was really good. We've ordered our travel system, the Uppababy Vista :j Was really good to be able to compare all the ones on our shortlist in the same place :) Won't be delivered til 1st October though. Bought a widgey BF cushion/babynest as well, and a MAM starter set of bottles (plus 2 free small bottles :), and a manual breastpump, both half price. Not planning on regular expressing, but may want to for the odd occasion, so thought a manual one compatible with the bottles was the way to go. It was getting super busy when we left at lunchtime, if you're going to one make sure to get there when it opens so you can look around before the rush! I'm knackered now though, so quiet afternoon/evening for us :o

    Hey everyone!

38 weeks today - the end is in sight!! Starting to get a bit excited now! Our Totsbots Teenyfit nappies turned up yesterday - they are just so adorable. We went to visit the in-laws last night and DH insisted on bringing a nappy along to show his mother! They were both ooh-ing and aaagh-ing over it, very amusing. No smart remarks or laughing or anything! It literally is the size of my hand, and my hands are small! DH very impressed with the quality so seems to be much more onboard than when I first mentioned the idea and he dismissed it outright! Incase any of you are buying off thenappylady.com, all of the nappies I ordered (6 Teenyfits and 1 Little Lamb onesize) came with at least 1 if not 2 boosters, so in hindsight there was no need for me to order additional boosters which I did. Still, I'm sure I'll find some use for them!

Not overly convinced about the quality of the Little Lamb onesize, but I guess you can't expect too much when you pay £6.50 for a birth-to-potty pocket nappy. It came with 2 huge boosters though.

Just wondering if anybody can suggest something I've forgotten about in terms of what I need for the baby? So far I have:

    • travel system including car seat
    • baby bath and top and tail thingy
    • 2 changing mats
    • nappies
    • wipes
    • cotton wool
    • nappy cream
    • baby wash
    • moses basket (stand borrowed)
    • cot, changer and wardrobe ordered but not delivered until early June
    • video monitor
    • 3 blankets/shawls
    • a ridiculous amount of bibs (gifted)
    • muslin thingys for throwing over shoulder (gifted)
    • sister buying me bouncer
    • 2 sleepsuits
    • 7 short-sleeved vests
(sister had baby 2 weeks ago so when our baby turns up, she is sending all 0-1month clothes with my parents who will visit the day after the baby is born)
    • cardigan
    • baby going home outfit including hat and mits
    • breast pads
    • maternity pads
    • lots of bottles of water/small cartons of juice/cereal bars for labour
    • sister sending me nipple cream
    • a few bottles (borrowed) incase the breastfeeding doesn't work out
Am I missing out on anything?

Does your cot come with a mattress or do you need to buy that separately? Sheets and blankets for the cot/moses basket etc? Maybe buy a couple of 0-3 month things just incase baby is long etc and the clothes you have don't fit? raincover for your travel system? baby towels/cuddle robes or will you use your own towels?

I daredn't even put a post up of what we have as I think I may have gone slightly ott lol.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I have most of them covered.
    • Cot bed comes with mattress.
    • Also have 3 sheets for moses basket (borrowed)
    • Overall, have 3 blankets so thinking this is enough for moses basket/cot/car seat????
    • Baby is currently measuring long and heavy so have some up to 3 months boys clothes I borrowed from my sister but need to put them through the wash to freshen them up - please note I don't know if I'm having a boy or a girl!!
    • the travel system included raincover
    • no baby towels (although sister included 2 blue hooded ones in the bag of 0-3 month boys clothes she lent me)
I have a feeling I'm having a boy. As well as my 2 week old niece, I have 3 nephews (so plenty of potential hand-me-downs) so am pretty sure that I'd be wasting money buying clothes if I do have a boy so I'm trying not to buy anything unnecessary until the baby turns up and we know for sure. But maybe I should get a neutral starter outfit is size 0-3 months just incase baby weighs more than 9 pounds?

I have about 15 blankets and probably use a good chunk of them.

Pram, car seat, cuddling on the couch, cot, moses basket. Some blankets will take a while to dry, and with sick, milk etc landing on them often, I'd say get a couple more. You will more than likely get loads as gifts.

    Hello all :)

Hope everyone's well - I've finally managed to read through the 40 or so pages that I'd missed; I was only 10 days behind... :o

Thanks to everyone for all your good wishes and congratulatory messages :)

Big congratulations to Alizee and gtothec - hope you're enjoying your mummy cuddles.

Emsbet, I remember you asking about baby books a while back. I can't recommend the Babycare Bible highly enough: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1904760511/ref=asc_df_19047605117939841?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&!!!!!hydra0b-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=1904760511&hvpos=1o1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4454100521831399329&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt= It's not the cheapest option, but it's worth every penny - it has lots of photos of practical hands-on stuff like 'how to' baby basics like bathing, swaddling, holding and handling etc. There's stuff on first aid and chapters on feeding, sleeping, crying and responding, baby month by month, caring for and interacting with older babies, keeping baby healthy etc. So it would also be useful when baby is a bit older - there are receipes and ideas for weaning, toodler-proofing your house etc. Although I agree that 'Your baby week by week' is useful, I find it harder to dip in and out of.

Our little girl was one week old yesterday, so we marked the occasion at 7.47pm (the time when she was born) with milk for her, beer for the OH and water for me  (hmmm.... am thinking I got a raw deal there...) We're really enjoying getting to know her and all her little facial expressions, and although I'm veeeery tired I wouldn't change a thing :) I'll be moving over to the newborn thread, but will no doubt lurk and sometimes post here too - I'll want to know how everyone's getting on!

Labour vibes to those who want them and hugs to those who need them x

PS: Forgot to mention that my overexcited friend, who I told you about a couple of weeks ago, texted me the morning after my c-section asking if I was home yet and when she could come and visit! Ahem, still unable to get out of bed, still attached to a catheter... not quite ready for visitors yet... :o
