But why are they getting dirty from people houses? Oh yeah because they have dirty floors. You would not get dirty socks from my house.

Hoovering doesn't clean dirt and stains, but regular carpet cleaning does.
I only have carpets upstairs, and hoover them about every other day, and use the carpet cleaner on them once a week. We are a shoes on household, and the carpets still look good as new.
Shoes aren't the only thing that can make carpets unclean - pets sit on them for a start, and slippers can transfer bacteria from bathrooms and kitchens to other carpets in the house.
Honestly, if you have a good cleaning regime (and from what you say about yourself it sounds as though you have), there's no need to make your guests uncomfortable by forcing them to take their shoes off. Floors are there to be walked on, and as such need regular cleaning.0 -

You are the second person who says they clean their carpets once a week. I confess to be a bit bemused by the term 'carpet cleaning' - to me that entails shampooing the carpet, leaving it for ages then hoovering it all up. There is no way I'd do that once a week.
OR it means getting in an outside firm to clean the carpets properly.
When you say you use the carpet cleaner once a week - what exactly do you mean?0 -
I've never cleaned a carpet in my life. As I mentiond in our last house when people came to view it thet thought we had new carpets. They were infact ten years old.
My kitchen and bathroom floors are bleach every day so minimal bacteria there.0 -

My three teenagers were once small children - I still never felt the need for a shoes-off policy. I'm glad to say they've all survived and are healthy teenagers now, despite my son having had a predilection for sucking snails out of their shells for a while... I think we managed to rescue most of them
. Perhaps their rules will change when those small children are teenagers in and out of the house all the time with their friends and associated outdoor equipment.
I must say you clean your floors much more often than I do, I may have a cat or six and a dog as well  knew I was a slob.
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

I have a Bissel pro-heat something or other. It's like a vacuum cleaner, you just add warm water and a bit of carpet shampoo, and run it round instead of vacuuming. It takes me about 20 - 30 minutes to do upstairs, that includes all the faffing about filling and emptying it and rinsing it out afterwards. It's got tools for awkward and hard to reach places. Leaves the carpets smelling lovely and they dry in a couple of hours. A sound investment for anyone with animals.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

We have inherited carpets in the house, and I have to say, while I hope we get rid of them all very very quickly, if we do get carpets anywhere, I would consider something to clean them with l,e this essential.shoes on or off. I find the whole idea of carpets a little unsavoury....even with shoes off...the foot diseases as said, but also just sweat etc building up over years. I can't wait to be rid of ours through out the house, but would definitely get something like that if we were keeping thempeaceandfreedom wrote: »You are the second person who says they clean their carpets once a week. Sorry by cleaning the carpets, I mean a vax machine. It's just like wet hoovering really, but it removes all the surface grime. I don't for one minute think its as effective as a deep clean from a professional carpet cleaner, but regularly used it does the job, and takes about the same amount of time as hoovering (although you do have to hoover first).0 -

With all due respect then, I definitely don't want to take my shoes off in your house - 10 year old carpets that have never been cleaned  - I'd rather not put my bare feet on them! Especially if you have cats or dogs who's bottoms are regularly sat on the floor!:eek:0 -
