Yes, I agree. It takes time, though, I think. Last year I tried to introduce the idea of giving each other presents for it. Like Christmas - can't give presents to Jesus for his birthday so give them to each other instead; can't give presents to Dad for his birthday so do the same. But that's been a bit complicated this year because of DS going away, and because while DD is missing Daddy terribly and feeling very sad, DS is feeling angry and anti-Dad because of finding out about the affair. So I decided to wait until DS gets back from his residential, and see if it might fit to do the presents (small ones) then.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
 Our Y-reg Mazda hasn't even got 70K on the clock!
My V reg Yaris has done 178000 miles. I buy new cars and keep them until they are exhausted. (previous car did 250K) Yaris is still going but I have had to admit recently it is not suitable for my daily 60 mile round trip anu more. Brought home to me when I used Mr Spirits car a few weeks ago and I was hit by another car. Only a rear end smack but at about 30mph.
So I have a new car on order - and had a call today to day should be here at the end of the month:T0 -
My strategy with cars is to buy a low mileage, not-terribly- popular model for around £1500 - £2k and run it into the ground. I don't like depreciation and here's no chance where I live of keeping a newish car looking decent.
Our V reg Nissan Primera was bought 7 years ago for £2k, and until recently, needed nothing but service items.:D Now, with still very little renewed, it looks like a a clutch & exhaust system is imminent, so it will have to go.
Had a one owner, full history Tino lined-up for £1400 cash two weeks ago, but then DW decided the seats might not be right.... Now she fancies a Mondeo diesel estate, which is harder to do, because they're popular and typically have Star Wars mileages, most being ex-repmobiles...0 -
Lir, re your friend. It is important that she keeps a diary of events that are going on. If she needs to refer to them later down the line, it will be clearer if she recorded them at the time rather than relying on thinking about it in the months after. Particularly if it gets very nasty and has to go to court.
Perhaps she can write this up each time she visits you.
Good luck to your friend, its a horrible situation. The PAYG mobile is a great idea too. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Think the poor thing groans when it is being loaded up with drum kit and children, probably thinks that at its time of life, it should be gently rested on a nice driveway for most of the week and taken to the supermarket once a week
Edit - it is an M reg Vauxhall Astra diesel estate. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

In theory I buy nearly new ex-demo's and trade them in after say 5years with really low mileage.
In practice there never seens to be an ex-demo available and twice I have been tempted to buy new having fallen for the car.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. If it were not for the mess ourcars get in i would really prefer a lease.....i hate buying cars and hate feeling tied to an unreliable one, or one no longer right for our needs.0 -

Same here. The one we have now is a 2001 Mazda 626, bought it in 2004 for £4K with 17K miles on the clock.
Currently almost 70K and never had any major expense apart from the usual wear and tear - brake pads, tyres, etc...
This summer we're taking it on a European drving trip, 3000 miles round trip, probably will have the cambelt changed before we go.0 -

Did that once, got a really good car for our money. Got a cheap flight to Glasgow, test-drove the car (which my dad had already spotted and test-drove for us) and bought it on the spot. Tore up the return tickets and drove the car south. Saved about £4000 on a 9-month old Almera.
Had a huge mileage by the time we sold it though, because of the all the long journeys to Scotland, commuting across London, and the fact that we were in a place with poor public transport. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
