Parents Mini (which had feelings too) came to a sad end when someone pulled out of a sideroad straight in front on a 60mph road. various reliability issues.

Lancia Y10 with GF 800 quid, I think about 50k, needed a clutch after a season in the snow and mountains of val d'isere but I think sold for about 500 quid with nearly 100k. Tipo with GF that was never reliable in the wet including cutting out in the fast lane of a French motorway in a sudden cloudburst (clean underwear needed). Puchased 2200 (too cheap for a reason I suspect) sold for 1850 about 2 years later.
Lancia Dedra - paid 2900 for 5 year old 50k car, DW (who was then DGF) crashed it at 130k, scrap was worth 200, expensive on breakpads/disks but I used it for a lot of M25 commuting and once nearly caught fire with oil leak on power sterring but otherwise very reliable and comfortable.
Toyota Carina E bought 3300 4 years 80k, got 1800 for it from insuranc ecompany after cosmetic accident (TP at fault) after about 5 years and 130k miles. Year later given to sister who ran it another 2 years 20k then traded it in although for the last few years it jumped out of 5th unless you used a small bottle to hold the gearlever in and was quoted over 500 for a gearbox refurb.
Fiat multipla 6.5k 2 years old 18k (well I had kids). 4 trouble free years as I purchased a 4 year warranty after which it has been a bit more troublesome but it became hardly used second car, now 11 years old and still less than 60k.
Fiat Stilo 2045 4 years old from ebay 40k. used for another work commute, 30k in 2 years, electric power steering failed, fiat wanted 750 quid but second hand part and local mechanic meant was only 200 quid, no other problems. Given to family member who drove it in to ground in 2 years but then got hit by TP and got 1700 insurance payout.
Fiat multipla 60k, 5 years old, 2k. Had engine remap for more power then new clutch 300 quid, cambelt 300 quid and then gearbox failed (up to £1200 if doen by fiat) so sold as faulty 2 years 15k miles later for 1400.
Fiat Multipla 2 years old 40k, 5k. Still have 1 year, 10k later, had huge amounts of work done by fiat before warranty ran out at 3 years old even though previous owner had only ever given it 1 service rather than the 3 that were due.
    I think....

So 29 car years owned, 11,700 depreciation in total is not too bad. I currently budget £100 per month for depreciation although obviously having 2 cars make sit worse although the 11 year old car is pretty much fully depriciated now.
    I think....

In my 27 year driving 'career', I had 6 cars, none of them were new, and paid approx. £21K for them. I think that's very MSE :)

I couldn't begin to add up how much cars have cost me over the years. I can't remember what most even cost me. The first was £500 ... then everything else is a blur until 2001.

Cars: blue, brown, red, red, mustard, green, mustard, white, white, white, black, grey. So probably, maybe, 12 cars in 32 years of driving. One new (£6k as I got £1k discount for cash). Last two cars have cost me £12,500 between them. Previous lot probably add up to a total of £2k tops.

Mine have mostly been red. I like red. Latest one is blue, though.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Oh god it's soulless taking cr4p photos of stuff for sale. CBA to put it onto ebay. Ebay doesn't really work round here for household items that people have to collect. I put loads of stuff on there once before and got a very poor response... very poor. One, immaculate, genuine solid black oak Habitat coffee table actually went for 1p. I didn't mind, as it had to go, but it shows you how pants it is round here.

Red cars are meant to be lucky.

When you get ex-demo's you get what they've got.

I've only once had a silver car and that was pure luck. Anyway white is the new silver - so I'm told.

We once got a nearly new mazda really cheap as the colour was a royal blue that they couldn't sell.

You need an ipad, there is a neat little app that makes selling on Ebay a dream. Cuts the job down to about 3 minutes per item.

Martin launched a neat little bit of software that helps people find collection only bargains, so that may generate some interest.
