Isn't all this going to cost a fortune?
That one is i reckon, the cheapest. Lace, unless i go the new italian option, which i won't, is depressingly cheap for antique atm. Very fine cotton is as cheap as chips, embroidered a little more. That window i reckon will be just a bit more than all of percy's. ( curain pole was 130 ish, inc postsge, much cheaper than when new ). I reckon i can do fabric from between 0 and fifty for there.....done. Lets forget shutters, they won't be coming for a while anyway!
Our bedroom curtains (which a rat chewed while they were in storage) are about to be replaced by some from my parents house. (hurrah). I have some which will do for a long time in the current dining room, so only the pole cost for there. Sitting room is a biggy:o as will be new dining room, three windows you see. I am thinking opf useing hessian and a bit of silk, whoch will actually be quite inexpensive. Even plain silk is not so dear.
I think its worth th einvestment, in terms of keeping warm, of lining and interlining properly, which is more expensive but will put an end to a lit of my complaints.
Obviously, cannot do all th curtains this year. Would like to get the front of the house done though, except maybe hall way.
Edit, longer term, i have fallen in love with a period appropriate embroidered antinque and recently spent an hour or two looking for something similar in sample books at a good but not ridiculous fabric and interiors shop near by. There they made a dangerous mistake of telling me they could replicate it and have it made up in india if i can eait till they get something else done at the same time to make up the rest of the minimum order. The problem here is that i would bneed to buy at least fifty metres of it. I want about six, lol. I have to think about whether i want to try and sell 40 metres of pretty unique embroidered silk, or what i would do with the left over. Dressing gowns, slippers, a very stiff nighty etc etc, all spring to mind, i do not want matchy match, else would make a bedcoverand lamp shades and stuff.....0 -
2 sheets, some garden cane and a couple of stick on hooks works a treat. For extra security of the curtains not falling down, use pegs.0

I did a few lessons of ancient Greek at school. Just to clarify that I was young and very stupid at the time, before I explain that I was shocked to find that when you translated the greek letters into the English alphabet the words were still 'in foreign' and needed to be translated again.0 -

Out of interest, in your experience, is stupidity something that reduces with age? My impression is that it gets worse. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Curtains: I bought all mine in the Next sale and have fine Roman blinds instead of nets, except one window that I have made a curtain for. Having a newer house it is easy to get things that fit my windows at a relatively low cost.
One thing I don't like is the quality of curtain poles in this country. They are much nicer and better made in the USA but not so easy to bring back in a suitcase. I love the store Restoration Hardware there. It has such beautiful things, then I get annoyed that they are too big to bring back or have the wrong voltage and would need converting. If only they were here too. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I love roman blinds. Thats robably what we will do in our study and kitchen.
I agree too, about quality of fittings available here, which is a shame because i have a feeling its the sort of thing we should be good at!0 -
I have not had a curtain in my bedroom for quite a while now, originally because the curtain rail fell down and I couldn't get it to go back up again but now, because I quite like being able to lay in my bed and see the stars and the moon.
Luckily, the window is just the right height for me not to be giving away any free views to passers by and opposite my house is bungalows.
As for the other rooms, in the front room are our bargain curtains which were priced wrongly and the shop honoured...should have been £80 or £90 but we got them for £30 something. Note the we, me and now ex hubby got them and not just before we split up either! Suppose it shows the quality in that they are still going strong and still look as good as they did back then.
All the other curtains are ones we brought with us from our last house or have been given to us over 10 years ago or been bought from boot sales (one of the boys' bedrooms - Power Rangers, did think about changing them to something more grown up in the last year but then eldest wanted Pokemon!)We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Unfortunately our windows are wider than that and I like the 50mm slats as they take up much less space when pulled up. PN is incorrect though, the ones we have do look pretty cheap but they do the job. Also went for made to measure as i think it is quite hard to get a really good finish if you cut them down yourself (have done it in the past).Ikea do very cheap venetian blinds. 1.4 x 2.5m costs £45
The ones I bought are silvery, and less expensive than that.I think....0 -
We have venetian blinds in the living room (2 x 1.25m wide, dark oak) and got them from Paul Simon (the home furnishings store, not the singer). They were £55 each (£40 + 15 for cutting to size).
Vertical blinds and curtains in the bedroom and net curtains in the 2nd bedroom (but not the horrible white ones, it's brown - beigish with some floral motif)0
