They can't remember?! Blimey. My mother has a very comprehensive memory of all our childhood ailments. OH thinks he had chickenpox, but he isn't sure, and his parents aren't around to ask, sadly....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Best to get it while a child. DW & I both had it as teenagers and it was horrible. I remember rolling around on the cellar floor in the middle of the night trying to get cool.
Worse still was rubella, which I had aged thirty-something, but until the visible symptoms showed, it had us totally perplexed. I could barely walk. In fact I was in tears, having gone out and literally conked-out a few hundred metres from home. I might feel like that again one day, but hopefully, not till I'm 103.0 -

Our dh's are in the same boat. Dh's dad wouldn't have a clue about childhood illnesses.
And yeah, my parents don't remember, in fact, they have been known to forget birthdays too:rotfl:. They are not terrible people, just mot that sort of parent. We all remeber i had whooping cough, and i know i went to mumps parties, just not whether i got mups or not.

Same here. I remember when my sister had them but not if I had them. I didn't catch them when dd had them so maybe I did have them after all. :huh:0 -
When you go out for a meal etc with parents, who pays?
Both sets of parents are financially comfortable, yet one set always pay for everything and would be insulted if we even offered to pay, the other set either start dividing up the bill or if there are other of their children (also in their 40s) with, thank us for the meal.
I'm bemused that both sets, who are of similar age, background, finances etc behave so differently.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Both dads would want to pay i am sure. If i am alone with my dad, which has happened a few times, we take it in turns. When i am with my mother she makes a big thing about paying then realises her account is empty...probably from telling everyone her pin. The thing with my dad has prompted a few discussions. Its maily because he likes to go out and have coffee and a sandwich a lot. I do not, i see this as a waste of money in a way i do not see a good meal, or a special tea/coffee or sandwich as opposed to tea and sarnie in m and s or a shopping centre. Dad is diabetic and is really, really bad and remembering his meds and eating regularly, so basically i feel sort of helt hostage overthe tea/sarnie thing. Sometimes i have said, 'great, you go eat, meet you in an hour/45 mins'. In fact, must start doing that more. Also, much to his horror, i need to get a shopping trolley. When i am weak i just can't deal with carrying stuff, and my dad, unlike dh would be horrified if i asked him to carry my handbag.
I also should take all the junk out my handbag, it would make for a much easier life!0 -
