Whohooo.
Four day weekend where we spend the time looking out at what we could be doing if it were dry!
Any one know how to choose how long a curtain pole should be? Online guides don't seem very clear. Leave enough room for the curtains, they say, about six inches. But surely there is some sort of achitectural ideal, an interior designer trick to perfect proportions? There are some on ebay i quite like but do not know if the length is long enough.......0 -

One important issue is whether you want the curtains to be clear of the window when they are drawn open? It is impossible to say how much space the curtains take up on the rail, as that depends on the type of hanging method you choose, the thickness of the fabric, the the width of the curtains, and whether they are lined. I have no idea how anybody came up with a figure of 6 inches.
I quite like the curtains that have a hole in the fabric, and the curtain pole gets threaded through that – not that we have any of course. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Yes, i like light.so want them clear of the glass, but only just. I plane to have interlined with blackout super insulated stuff. Like duvets at the window. I guess that means more than six inches! But how much i wonder?

I hang them quite a bit wider than the window frame, but with plenty of fabric to fill the full space when drawn. It lets most light in during the day, makes the windows look bigger and you have the sumptuousness of lots of fabric.
The height, well, if they're not made to measure, I'd set the height to suit the curtains perfectly. Saves taking the curtains up or down and counteracts the cost of buying wider curtainsEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

That will depend entirely on the width of your window.
Buy an adaptable, overlength curtain pole which allows you to judge yourself what looks right.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Hamish is younger than me! I'd always imagined him as older than me. I wonder why?
Ah! So it's not viva who's me, it's Doozer who's me.
Are you me? Confused :think:Brallaqueen wrote: »Weather's miserable. Work's miserable. I'm miserable. Can it be the weekend now, pretty please?
Weather's great, work's good, I'm ok and it feels like the weekend already.
