30 isn't a great age in my book but 40ish onwards is.

I'm in the life begins camp.

It's probably fair to say things get better (all being the same) the older you get, up to a point. I don't know what that point is as I haven't reached it yet.

30 just seems to be the time when you feel you haven't done enough and things are creeping up on you. This is just a normal feeling and by the time your nearer 40 you will have a better feeling about everything.

Is this common knowledge, or did I miss something?

I thought everybody had a big house here (except me).

Fairly sure I've mentioned it before....:)

I need NP help, and possibly specialist advice from a personal shopper.

Bought a suit on the weekend. Three pairs of trousers. I only tried one on, but one of them is wrong (it is marked the same size as the others but the waist is about 1.5 inches smaller and the leg is 0.5 shorter). They don't fit.

Brilliantly the receipt has already gone in the bin (don't ask, but it's quite similar to passport-gate, although this time i told her it wasn't her fault in line with previous NP opinion (which is still wrong by the way ;))). NB/ I have already been down to the bins outside to check, but they are emptied on Tuesday mornings.

Obv. bought on credit card, can I do anything about this without a receipt?

    2ND/

Need to take the in laws for dinner somewhere in central london tomorrow. Preferably around Farringdon / Smithfield area. Does anyone know any where suitable (they are in their 60s and anywhere noisy won't work!) Budget not really important.

Credit card statement is proof of purchase.
Goods not suitable for the purposes they are designed, advertised & sold (they are not the size advertised).

On a different note, my Mum refers to the death of Diana as the day on which the whole of Britain lost its stiff upper lip. She traces everything - from the tears on Britain's Got Talent through to public displays of affection back to that one day. I'm not entirely convinced she's wrong.

    Your mum is understating it.

This whole concept of public sadness & wailing & so on that has arisen since causes me sometimes to despair.

At the time, I never got it, as I didn't know this woman. I had no contact with her. Why should the world cease, & everyone cry whilst failing to carry out their daily business because some bird who the vast majority of people only knew through newspapers copped it?

Since then, the mourning brigade has become immense. Almost every week there is a minutes silence/applause prior to a football game. You can't drive down a road without flowers being on a tree or lamp-post. You can't open a newspaper without a story complaining about the heartless council removing flowers from lamp-posts by a family who lost someone at that spot 3 years ago.

    It is too much.

These people were usually only names to me. I may have admired their acheivements, but thats it.

Thousands die every day, where is their minutes silence?

We're in danger of losing the context imo. Its almost like people WANT to be depressed.

I was cashing up one of the tills in the Restaurant we owned at the time in downtown Tampa.

I turned around and saw about 30 people with their faces pressed up against the heavily tinted glass windows. In my usual friendly way I opened the door and asked what the !!!! they wanted, and one of them said, look at the TV (I couldn't see it from the Bar area, and the sound was muted)

10 minutes later the place was packed with people just staring blankly at the telly....hardly a word was said for ages.

I remember thinking that all the people I knew worked in the south Tower, (especially two really good mates at Cantor) so they were safe, and then the 2nd plane came into view and the rest is history

Less than 2 weeks before the day, I had taken the family to NY for a weekend....we still have a video taken on the viewing platform on top of the south tower....my 5 yo son is pointing at planes landing at La Guardia "look daddy.....the planes are lower than we are"

    Makes me cry everytime. :o

purch in a "I'm human really" shocker!!!!

Well if I change my mind and want more of a fuss I don't have many people to invite - and they all live miles away - so it won't change much!

One of my ex-colleagues (aged 31) told us that she had been to the GP for a repeat prescription. All was going fine until the GP looked at her date of birth and he asked her if she was in a relationship. She replied that she was (its a complicated one though and not married/ engaged etc) to which the GP said that she should really think about starting to try for a child as she wasn't getting any younger  I have no idea how I would have reacted to that!

I'd have told the GP to GTFO...

In my twenties because of the pressure of health etc it was very clear to me the fragility of female ovarian youth. Men seen to get better and better with age, noone is suprised by a sexy fifty year old man, but a sexy fifty year old woman makes headlines. I am always glad i had done so much so early, because otherwise i would be up the creek now!

When the parents are sorted i am really keen to find some voluntary work again. But....i am struggling to find something i really believe in.
