Not a good day today...was up early after 3 hours sleep to watch the GP and was just taking some moments to myself with a cup of tea after putting the roast on when mum calls in a right state, dad not well at all, so I tell her to call 999 immediately.

I get down there straight away and the ambulance had arrived already (the port ambulance rather than the normal ambulance service) and they cart him off to hospital and we all follow.

Well, they only bleddy let him out again! Extremely low BP, low O2 sats, irritabillity, confusion initially and a pain across his middle...screams not just normal run of the mill stuff to me but no, the doctor, whilst not knowing what is wrong discharges him with instructions to come back tomorrow morning at 9am for the Rapid Assessment unit.

Unfortunately, he discharged him after the doctor had sent the rest of us away to get a cup of tea...we come back to find mum and dad waiting by the door to be taken home, so no chance for us to question.

And to top it all off.....looks like sister in law has gone into labour, 6 weeks early!
Sorry to hear that, Sue. I hope things go smoothly for SIL, and that your dad's OK.

Thanks for the tip zag. I may be travelling down South in 4 weeks time
On the southbouind M6, take motorway exit 29, go right at first roundabout onto the A6 and bob's your uncle- big sainsbury's with (currently) cheap petrol. Alternatively if you need a break further down on the M40, junction 11 (Banbury) you turn right and then right at the fourth roundabout and you've a tesco's with petrol.
If anyone else has good tips for long-distance travellers, don't keep them to yourselves!
The website 5minutesaway.co.uk doesn't include both of these although they're both less than five mninutes away but may offer alternatives.

I hate payng £1.50 per litre! :D Also the supermarkets are more useful for food/prezzies than service stations are!

Seems a bit of a paradox really - surely if we really are nice people then we shouldn't discriminate against others for any reason, even if they are not nice?!

Naw, nasty /not-nice /impolite people can go take a long walk on a short plank. We're all nice enough as it is without having to put up with nasty peeps.:D

Following on from the ideal bloke type thing that got posted, I found this:

A POEM ABOUT THE PERFECT MAN
I long for a man of good disposition
who's smart and clever & happy to listen
He'll be understanding, strong and also gentle
and when I spend big money, he won't go mental
He'll lend me his coat & let me go first
And understand the month end curse
He'll massage my feet without a moan
    My healthy appetite he'll condone
I long for a man who'll love my mind
& know the answer to 'How big's my behind?'
He'll be my friend, no matter what
Always there for me, ready or not.

A POEM ABOUT THE PERFECT WOMAN
Give me a deaf mute nymphomaniac
with big tits who owns a pub and a fishing boat
    this doesn't rhyme and I don't give a toss
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Btw, what do people think of the avatar before I change it back?

Looks a bit like a play on situation of the current coalition!

I am keeping mine for a while, or maybe longer. After all, there was a time when it could have been me.

Jelly, I like the poem, except the voluminous paridae don't appeal, and I like to chat, not perform monologues. :)

Dh always takes ages to find his page, it annoys me. With our own books i just fold over the corner, and use a book mark with borrowed books.

So i fold books' pages and read in the bath; i am a book abuser.

    Heathen!!!!!

    Bookmark only, me.
    HATE folded page corners.

A woman of valor, who can find? Far beyond pearls is her value. Her husband's heart trusts in her and he shall lack no fortune

She repays his good, but never his harm, all the days of her life. She seeks out wool and linen, and her hands work willingly

She is like a merchant's ships; from afar she brings her sustenance She rises while it is still nighttime, and gives food to her household and a ration to her maids

She considers a field and buys it; from the fruit of her handiwork she plants a vineyard. She girds her loins with might and strengthens her arms

She senses that her enterprise is good, so her lamp is not extinguished at night. She puts her hand to the distaff, and her palms support the spindle

She spreads out her palm to the poor and extends her hands to the destitute. She fears not snow for her household, for her entire household is clothed with scarlet wool

Bedspreads she makes herself; linen and purple wool are her clothing. Well-known at the gates is her husband as he sits with the elders of the land
Garments she makes and sells, and she delivers a belt to the peddler. Strength and splendor are her clothing, and smilingly she awaits her last day

She opens her mouth with Wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She anticipates the needs of her household, and the bread of idleness, she does not eat

Her children rise and celebrate her; and her husband, he praises her: "Many daughters have attained valor, but you have surpassed them all."

False is grace, and vain is beauty; a God-fearing woman, she should be praised.

Give her the fruit of her hands, and she will be praised at the gates by her very own deeds.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I suspect we have different ideas of what makes a good tip.

M4 London to S. Wales/ Bristol. The services at Reading and Leigh delemare are far, far nicer than Membury. Both have a Costa and an M&S food.

I've changed it already - before you saw it... It was a parking sign from America that said "sorry, nice people only".

Though I'm far more intrigued by what you were up to in the sixties if you were like Keith Moon...
