Why do you need an ESTA? If you are eligible for non-visa travel, surely you just get on the plane and go?

Since January 2009 you need an ESTA instead of the old green card that you used to complete on the plane. Now compulsory, you can't board a plane without one.

They still do that. In fact some libraries write names of say old people homes in the back so they know which ones they've been out to.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

I do abuse (my own) text books though. My pet peeve is people who abuse library books because they aren't theirs, without a thought to other people borrowing them or the library staff who have to process them.

Probably the worst I've seen was someone who had clearly used a children's picture book to roll a joint on and the grass had stuck in the binding.

I also rip of dust jackets and throw them away. Dh often rescues them and keeps them in a drawer or file.

    I never abuse borrowed books.

The description of the box of bits with no function and the keeping of dust jackets is making me think I've actually married your DH as well. Is he there at the moment? Or could be be upstairs in Hertfordshire playing with maths? Or perhaps he's not really upstairs here at all...

I know you never abuse borrowed books, you are far too nice for that. Sometimes it's also a bit of people not knowing. For example, we put plastic jackets over books to keep the dust jackets clean and tidy for longer but people take them off because they don't like them. They put them back on when they bring them back, but they aren't designed to be taken off and put back on loads of times. The funny thing is sometimes they put them on upside down, which means the next borrower comes up and says "excuse me, but this book has been printed upside down". I genuinely love the general public though, you never know what they are going to do from one day to the next.

I don't mind plastic book covers, and wouldn't bish them if books came with them. They are the opposite of horrid flappy dust covers.

Seems a bit of a paradox really - surely if we really are nice people then we shouldn't discriminate against others for any reason, even if they are not nice?!

Btw, what do people think of the avatar before I change it back? I was looking for something to put up and just googled nice people images and found the sign. There was also another one that said "nasty people suck but nice people swallow". I decided that one was a bit too provocative! I hope to go back to being a Simpson later today though.
    I think....

You're right, it is a paradox and I didn't want to come across as rude. It looks like a parking sign. I thought it would be fun for a day but didn't plan to keep it. I've tried thinking of someone famous I'd like to be and couldn't think of anyone so went for a sign instead. I'll go off and see if I can find something else I like for an avatar before becoming a Simpson again.

    ETA: changed.

Not sure. I think, for example, a nice person would hope to stand up against not nice people oppressing any people, nice or not nice.

    Personally, i do
N't consider myself nice, but i can behave nicely if required.
