I have no recollection of the storyline, but I do know I read Elidor when I was a kid.

Once read, I don't remember books.... and I have to mostly read them in one sitting so I don't forget who is who and what's going on. That's one of the reasons I gave up reading years ago - I tried bedtime reading but had to read the whole book before I got to sleep..... and then I couldn't get hold of enough books.... so I stopped reading.

I have thos problem, becuase of my broken brain, I see it as a bonus, a good book is almost as good the second time, third, fourth..

Dh and i sometimes read a book together. He reads very much slower than me, which i find boring, so i read it the day before we read it. But when re reading with him, at almost his pace (i close my eyes for a while while he finspishes each page) i pick up on an awful lot more, which is a shameful but true admission. Dh also remembers detail remarkably well, often able to recall passages he particularly liked in their entirity.

It'll be old hat to viva, but I remember when I first noticed that some library books had random words underlined or pencilmarks in the margins. Somebody explained that elderly borrowers made those marks to remind themselves they'd read it before, so they wouldn't borrow it again!:D

Dh always takes ages to find his page, it annoys me. With our own books i just fold over the corner, and use a book mark with borrowed books.

So i fold books' pages and read in the bath; i am a book abuser.

They still do that. In fact some libraries write names of say old people homes in the back so they know which ones they've been out to.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

I do abuse (my own) text books though. My pet peeve is people who abuse library books because they aren't theirs, without a thought to other people borrowing them or the library staff who have to process them.

Probably the worst I've seen was someone who had clearly used a children's picture book to roll a joint on and the grass had stuck in the binding.

ESTA sorted. Three nail biting minutes of "do not refresh your browser" whilst the online system decides if it can issue online or if you need to wait for manual intervention. All done and valid for 2 years. 14$ each, bit of a money spinner for the US government.

Btw, what do people think of the avatar before I change it back? I was looking for something to put up and just googled nice people images and found the sign. There was also another one that said "nasty people suck but nice people swallow". I decided that one was a bit too provocative! I hope to go back to being a Simpson later today though.

Read a book once about cultural differences between Europe and the Americas. A vivid memory is a story of an American man who rips his paperback in two and gives the part he's already read to his wife who'd asked ifit was any good and could she read it next. His wife was European and was horrified at the iaction (as was I when I first read about it).

However the book very fairly and neutrally relates how these attitudes come about and tells quite a lot about how different societies can develop different values. For example, in the US being generous to someone counts more than respecting a mass-produced inanimate non-durable item.:)

Why do you need an ESTA? If you are eligible for non-visa travel, surely you just get on the plane and go?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
