Has anyone been watching the quiz that goes with the National Lottery? It has unintentionally been comedy gold tonight. I doubt you can watch it on iPlayer, but if you can, it's hilarious.

There was a piece on I think the BBC saying Festivals were all taking a break this year due to lack of interest and reduced discretionary spending - are you seeing this in your part of the market?

    Sorry, only just seen this!

If you look on a quota per event, we’re about 8% down, however much of our work is coming from Eastern Europe, and well over 80% of our vehicle stock is on Ukrainian, Lithuanian or Spanish registration plates, with a few Georgian plated GAZ vans (like LDV Maxus) and Mondeos. The UK side is averaging 20% down, but still enough coming in to keep things going.

We don’t do anything ‘big’ as such, which may explain it, and I drive past a pub about 2 hours ago with a live night, bursting at the seams, which is, to an extent, what we do, so I may not be the best person to ask this.

Just had a phonecall from a relative saying my grandmother (95) is not well. I’ve got kids back at school on Mon, a workload too big to handle anyway (which may also answer your above question) and don’t need this at the moment! On a 50/50 Batumi-London mission. I may well be pulling the kids out of school, though, to go over. Passport request for 12yr old Welsh kid approved if need be (Her parents are in Wales, although don’t want to drag anyone else into this!) Sister and mother (on unpaid leave) leaving tomorrow, so I’ve got 3 businesses to run instead of 2..

Over the drink-drive limit tonight, will make decisions tomorrow!

There was a discussion a couple of pages back about good older children/teen's books. Missk really enjoyed the Hunger Games trilogy which was subsequently really quickly devoured by lir.

I wondered if any of the nice peeps have read any of these ones, which have made it on to my "to read" list:

The Book Thief, by Marcus Zusak:

Journey to the River Sea, by Eva Ibbotson:

    Holes, by Louis Sachar:

I've been crafty and nabbed the choices of the young readers at my library (perk of the job)...

Also library users, the new adult JK Rowling has been announced this week. If you get in now, you should be able to get at the top or near to the top of your library's reservation list, so you don't have to wait months. It's already number 10 on pre-orders on Amazon and doesn't come out until September:

We are very near the green belt and can walk there for miles and forget we are so near London.

We once lived further inside London but in a cracking location, fast regular train service to London running until 1.30 AM, wide range of shops 5 minutes walk away, House was like a Tardis - looked like nothing from the outside, amazing what we could fit inside.

A major plus was it was facing a landscaped open space; when we woke up if we looked out of the right window we could have been in open country. Mind you if we'd opened the window we'd have heard the traffic hurtling past on the A3 just a block away!

The photo of your garden and bbc clip of michaels's garden look a lot more roomy than London.

Must stop moaning - my current house is a decent size (and 4 bed houses aren't so common in London). Got a garden the size of a postage stamp but I'm very near some small and big parks.:)

There's a lot of talk about income. As Billy Connolly once quoted about his friend I'm not rich but I'm valuable.

There's a lovely line in the Simpsons where celebrity Krusty the Clown rants about how everywhere he goes he sees"Teachers driving sports cars, research scientist drinking champagne.":rotfl:

I prefer not to use the analogy of the three arks from Hitchhiker's guide.

We had a 4 bed in W3, on the Valletta Road, before we moved up here. I know that quite a few have been converted down into 2 properties, but there are still quite a few down there, or is that not far enough into London for your liking?

Tipped it down, p155ed it down here ... ALL day... incessantly, heavily. Giant water rods dropping from the sky... localised flooding.

    Awful it was.
