we've always been too scared to do that.

Also afraid that the wall won't support the TV.

The wall in question is a single skin wall (formally a garage wall) with insulation cladding on the inside then plastered. Don't know how we would calculate if it could support a TV, especially as there is a "proper" roof on that bit now and wonder if adding a TV would be too much strain.

So the TV is on a stand.

    CRT TV or LED?
So long as you drill into the brick you'd be fine with either. Just need heavier bolts for CRT obviously.
Had a couple of TV's on the wall (brick) in our old house. No problems. Most TV brackets are purposely overengineered.
Just got one on the wall now into those softer modern insulation blocks. Only 2 screws for a 20" LED. Again no problem.

Thanks for reminding me. At the end of January I turned up at Abu Dhabi Airport for a midday flight, only to be told they'd been fog the previous night, the Airport had been shut, and all flights were delayed for at least eight hours:mad:

Yep - the fixings said fine for brick but aircrete (low density breeze blocks) would not be strong enough - luckily this section of wall supports an RSJ so is engineering brick although very hard to drill compared to normal brick. Bracket thogh only has 3 bolts rather than 4 and the tv is heavy (v old 37inch lcd 40 quid from ebay) and it is a tilt and pivot bracket so tv is further from wall than standard bracket. Still I hung on the bracket and it did not move :)

I did drill with a 6mm bit first, it is easier and also is easier to get the hole in the right place withot it wandering at the start, however the 6mm was not long enough for the fixing so the last 30mm were 'virgin' 10mm.
    I think....

My o2 broadband (the old 8mb uncapped no traffic-shaping) tariff is only 4.25 per month. I have an o2 mobile free on a cashback deal from mobiles.co.uk for £5 reduction (don't use it at all, just have it for this reduction) aned then o2 offer 6 months free each year if you threaten to leave - hence 4.25 per month.

the problem is that sky has £100 cashback and half price unlimited (and supposedly no traffic shaping). The new O2 packages have traffic shaping and she wanted me to move to the ones with that to match the price :(

She did try but their packages are more expensive and I kept forgetting to top up my O2 prepaid for their discount. (and I'm paying £18 a month when new customers pay £17.50 )

Misskool, thank you for recommending the hunger games last week. I read the trilogy while getting a patchy first coat of paiont on the wall over the weekend, and think its superb. I love childrens and teens literature and have been really disponadant at some of the stuff that gets published simply because teens have an insatiable appetite for dystopia and vampires and sexualised fairies.....i like vampires and fairies too...but not the terribly written stories that are being churned out in recent years since twilight saga.

Apparently (at least) one of the nice people was on TV yesterday morning but completely missed it as the promised 'heads-up' email was never sent.

Good luck with sky, friends say it works well when it's up and running but it canbe difficult to get it configures right.

For mobiles I guess it depends what you are looking for, but Tesco phone shops had the best deal for OH, but not on tesco's own network.

I can recommend Asda PAYG if you're on the vodafone network (was with Tesco on the O2 network but rubbish coverage for my home and work).

I read a lot of good stuff about giffgaff but never met anyone who uses them.

This table might be useful too but not sure how up-to-date it is.

50" plasma. I think the wall at that point may be a single brick widthways, so only 4", once you've drilled through the plaster and insulation.

Anyway it sits fine on its stand.
