Just found a great way to spend 2 hours.... running round my ad server, server, domains and spreadhseets and notes because my site/s were auto-forwarding to a holding page. I realised something was up when income today was 22p.
I had a piece of code on every page, on every site, which should have been displaying a navigation aid - two weeks ago they sent one email to say they were closing down. I didn't spot the email, they only sent one.... and now their service is completely dead and so every page that had that code on would auto-forward to their adfarm page.
Annoying.
It was a handy bit of code too - probably made me £1500-2000 in the past 2 years.
All fixed now. Income today is now so far 98p.
I need to go and live in a dusty village hut ... I'm one of those "living on under $1/day" types0 -
Not always. It certainly doesn't always work like that the other way. Both LNE and I used to eat whatever we liked and stay reasonably slim when we were young and poor and cycled everywhere. It was when we got a bit more money and got a car (and then a second one) that we both started to spread a bit - well me a little bit and him a lot, actually. I am happy with my weight now but really need to be careful not to put any more on or I will have to spend lots of money on next size bigger clothes, and I have more important and interesting things to do with the money.
the point i was trying to make is that if you eat more because you're hungrier because you're exercising more, then you're not going to lose weight.
even doing quite intense cardio doesn't really burn a huge number of calories. jogging on the flat for half an hour is probably going to get rid of 200 calories or less. running properly might get rid of 350 (depending on how much you weigh), but as a beginner you won't be able to work out at that level of intensity for half an hour.
if you burn an extra 200 calories a day by going to the gym for half an hour, and then eat the same as before, it would theoretically take you about 17-18 days to lose a pound of fat*. so just doing some exercise and maintaining your calorie intake at whatever it was before is a long a slow way to lose weight, and most people would probably give up quite quickly as they aren't seeing results. if you also cut your calorie intake at the same time as starting going to the gym then you'll see results more quickly and be more likely to stick at it.
(*obviously the numbers don't really work like that in practice as everyones' body functions in a different way, but there is no escaping the basic underlying principle that you have to be using up more calories than you are taking in to lose weight. )0 -

When I went, after work, I had the choice between The One Show, Coast and Emmerdale :undecided0 -

i really like coast so i would have been happy with that!
i normally watch the news if i go after work, or just listen to music and stare blankly at the wall - a great way of clearing your mind of all the work stuff.0 -

All gyms are different. The 'local' one here (10 miles away) is grim and dark and dire. It's council owned and expensive.
My sibling up country was describing hers the other day - it's a posh hotel group, with pool and gym and social club and it's all shiny.
Hers is cheaper than the local/grim one here.
I know somebody in South Wales who belongs to a (cheap) gym - and she gets full swimming and gym and a social club and all other activities are free, e.g. she did some stuff like kick boxing and samurai sword classes or something - all free to members.
So, all gyms are not created equal.0 -
