Walk for half an hour, briskly, every day. I see quite a few people walking round here and they have got slimmer over the 5 years we've been here. Don't know if they do anything else as well, but I doubt it or they wouldn't bother walking.

My friend did it and it totally worked! They'd meet on Clapham Common.

Ron Davies tried it too. Changed his life!

    Sorry, couldn't resist! :o

silly question, i need to lose about a stone but i am dead lazy. I love to eat and hate exercise.

Does anyone think joining a gym with personal trainer for 3 months would be helpful?

Personal trainers are really expensive and don't do a great deal for most people. The ones in our gym seem to just stand next to their clients and chat to them whilst they're on the exercise bike.

Better off just going by yourself. It's all about actually getting to the gym in the first place, once you're in there it's not too difficult to motivate yourself to do stuff.

However, unless you control your calorie intake at the same time you're not going to lose any weight. The main problem with exercise as a weight loss technique is that it increases your appetite...

:o I'm really scared of going. I've never used an exercise machine in my life, seriously. I might have been in a gym once. Maybe.

I'm already tubby, I don't need big mirrors and baggy clothes AND everyone else laughing at me when I get there.....

This is the problem see, when you gain a bit of weight, it's really hard to actually try and lose it. Easy for some of you genetically blessed and for the rest of you who work hard at it.

    :)

Don't know which bit you're in but I could recommend a lovely lady, she's freelance, works at lots of Virgin Actives around South and Central London, but like LIR said, if you can find the trainer without the gym, it's more MSE.

I'm a bit further South London than that (think beach!) :rotfl:

Not always. It certainly doesn't always work like that the other way. Both LNE and I used to eat whatever we liked and stay reasonably slim when we were young and poor and cycled everywhere. It was when we got a bit more money and got a car (and then a second one) that we both started to spread a bit - well me a little bit and him a lot, actually. I am happy with my weight now but really need to be careful not to put any more on or I will have to spend lots of money on next size bigger clothes, and I have more important and interesting things to do with the money.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    Hey NP's

For anyone that was a fan of Kseniya Simonova (sand artist), take a look at this which appeared on Nichieri (Georgia’s got Talent) last week.

How are things on this end?

    CK

I thought you were being ironic with the " fan of .... sand artist" I clicked and expected to be amused.

I am really moved by this. Thank you.

I think keeping to a weight is OK for most people until they reach their 40s, and then it becomes harder. The kilos creep on slowly, so someone like me, who doesn't pay much attention, can be seriously caught out. :o

It was only when I hit 12 stone that I had my LBM on this.

I'm now 11 st 3, which is still too heavy, but I think I can get down to just under 11 st with a bit more effort. I exercise a lot in the course of a normal week on the smallholding, so it's just a matter of reducing intake.

As chewie says though, it's hard to do a day's physical and eat a modest meal at the end of it. :(

Why have you got a lifesaving rubber ring on the wall? How deep is your bath?;)
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

But what you eat in those circumstances is important too.

This has become a feature of my life since i got ill. My weight more than doubled, although i was very slim before. When i first got ill i put on a stone a week(though its very likely a lot of that was water too).

Because i have to balance a profound lack of energy with a hyper efficient fat starage facility due to the conflicting nature of my problems, just stopping gaining weight is hard. :(. Weight is also the symtom i have found hardest of all to live with, far harder than the pain. I don't know if this is unique to being a woman, or even to personality type and expectations of self, earning impact etc. There is absolutely no doubt one is judged (and i judge by it too, including myself) by excess weight more than being underweight.

Imo gym equipment is a waste without understanding how to get most from it, and i sort of agree with chewy in thT triners in gyms are the worst i have had, a proper trainer though, is good value for money and while you will not, should not, like them very much, you will also love them. I long to be 'well' enough to hire a trainer to dislike again. A trainer with a good qualification in sports massage is an underrated bonus imo. :o. You should feel exhausted but not worse, and a good sports massage to help acheive that is not underared by professional athletes, so for those of us less fit and blessed, might be even more valuable!
