I've still got a search button on Windows 7....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I am a bit blue today.....

Can any nice people suggest things that cheer them up?

Taking my terrier for a walk (other dogs are available)
I'm picking my next town.... and it's scarey really. Randomly having to pick a destination, having never been there. How do you know if you're in a crack den area?

It's got beaches and railways and shops and stuff. Should be good. Rents are high though; have to get one of those jobs malarkeys.

I envy you having the chance to find somewhere new. I spent years living in a town where there didn't seem to be much to do. Buses were rare. locals barely spoke to you, and my colleagues used to clear off out of town for the weekend. Once leaving work at night I had to go back in and turn on the light and leave the door open as it was so dark I couldn't see my car. (and it was parked just in front of my door ten paces in front of the entrance). Felt I was living at the rim of the universe.

As my contract was ending, I put "Cities" by Talking Heads on my record player before deciding where to move to, Had the choice of Bolton, Wolverhampton, Huddersfield and London. Only knew one of them was a city; went there and stayed ever since.

Nothing wrong with the other places, but I wasn't going to run the risk of them being just a town (sorry lj and doozer, but this was so long ago that I think wolverhampton was still a town).

You have to know if you're happy in a small place or a big place and even if you're going to study somewhere you should think about that carefully. A lot of the fun of moving somewhere is exploring it and finding out the facilites and places to see;I hope you'll enjoy that. Good luck with the choice!;)

It's also scarey as it's pretty much my "last chance saloon". I have to settle somewhere soon..... I've no roots.

I need a big place, but I want a quiet place.

I also want: good off road parking and a proper bath. A kitchen would be nice too. I'll just be renting, to look around ....

But I can't really afford a nice place, so it's off-putting to look.

I also can't actually look until my old's place has completed ... and it's all gone quiet on that front, on the other hand it might be all systems go in 2-3 weeks.

So I look and think, but don't.... and wonder.

    :)

But there will be a beach - and 24 hour supermarkets - and transport.

I got a maxtor bare drive a few months back, open the case, whack it in on the spare sata, boot using the magic cd and you get the option to clone your original hd on to the new one. Takes a while but when finished simply remove old hd, put new one on to primary sata connector and jobs a good un.

    This is a major need.

I need the software to do a complete backup of my desktop hard disk, which has frothing capacitors and could go at any moment.

I want to be able to copy the who,e thing over to the ext HDD then when I get a new computer, copy it onto the new computer and just carry on as before.

    Am I asking the impossible?
    I think....

When you say quiet do you mean not on a busy road?
Do you have ties to a particular county? Have you lived elsewhere, and are you looking over a wide region?

Therer's a bit of freeware for mac called carbon copy cloner which makes 100% faithful bootable copies of drives easily. There must be an equivalent for Windows, I assume.

I've always lived in small, green, quiet, country areas. Hate noise of any sort.
No ties... small region currently targetted. Border of SW/SE, at the seaside.

Had in-laws who lived in Bognor Regis. Had its own micro-climate with the sun blazing down. Their house was a huge modern semi with garage and garden and all mod cons at the same price we paid for a mid-terrace 3-bed house in the London suburbs where you couldn't swing a cat!

At their house you walked across the road, down a short path and you were on the beach. Now if only it had been on the edge of a bigger city......
