Found something new to do together with DD this evening. She's interested in houses.... .
I think it's a brilliantly educational thing to do!:)
There are so many aspects to buying a property, and now there a plethora of tools available, which make the research so much easier. I wonder what % ofpeople use them though?
When we were looking at places 100+ miles away, it was essential to be cost effective, so we were very grateful for OS maps and Google Earth to do the basics before we went too far into the detail. No Streetview then! So many places didn't get beyond that first screening.
Where children probably part company with adults is in the maths bit: i.e. Can I afford it?
No, on second thoughts, that's unfair. Many adults have trouble with that one too! :rotfl:0 -
Hmm - I am sure there are many who would see introducing one children to property as qualifying as irresponsible parenting...
DS2's geography course work was about house prices in St Albans. They had to traipse round the streets comparing the condition of the road, the state of the houses and then collect data online and from estate agents and analyse the prices against the collected data. [STRIKE]We [/STRIKE]He scored highly.:)I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Found something new to do together with DD this evening. She's interested in houses - when I was beginning to learn about buying houses I watched a fair number of property shows on TV to get my head round a few things and feel a bit less ignorant. (I hung out on the house buying/renting/selling etc board here too.) She used to watch them with me and loved them. So now I've introduced her to the "have a look at this" thread over on the house board. We see what the posts tell us to look out for and then look at the houses. I make sarcastic comments in an overly dramatic tone of voice and she roars with laughter. I think she'd be happy to go on doing it all night, but I can only cope with so much at a time. I've promised we'll look at some more tomorrow, though.
Mine are already in the same position
They already have a BTL each (legally mine until they’re 18, of course), but this was done in 2007, so they’re technically in NE. I am racking this down as fast as I can, though.
Currently on the phone to Santander, who’d like my Commercial accounts as they’d like to save money.....I’m going to see what they have to offer and go from there.

I really really hope that things improve for you soon, and you’re a lovely lady, so I think that the odds are that they will.

17 years ago, statistically, I was unlikely to meet Mr Right.... I suspect now it'd be akin to a miracle.0 -

Which sounds like we girlies sit around [STRIKE]painting our nails[/STRIKE] having our nails painted rather than working, whereas some of us do both.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
