I was filling out a ‘change of registration number’ for myself earlier (Someone complained about me having an old reg. plate on my badge, even though I was saving paper) to have a man in his 80s ask me for help completing a ‘lost bus pass’ form. He didn’t know when he got it, when it was up for renewal or the number (it was a lost pass), but the reception staff refused to accept it.

Re the bus pass. You may be aware already, but library staff are now being trained in helping with the bus pass application process. Not in terms of filling out the form, but helping say that the picture is a likeness and so forth. I'm not sure how widely this is being adopted and whether it is nationwide, but it could help some disabled people with the new rules.
In terms of the form filling, yes a lot is very repetitive, but sometimes you just need to use a bit of common sense. Unfortunately at times, common sense is not very common. The pirate flag is a prime example. Lydia, I'm so glad my neighbours aren't like that. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I don't think lir will have taken it that way!Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Our 'goings' are the only thing around here of any value then. Better take more care of them.

I also got called by a recruiter today working for one of the nationalised banks, touting what would be my ideal job if it has been at a non taxpayer owned bank. I said I'd consider coming in for a interview if they tripled the salary. The conversation ended pretty quickly!
It could be charity on your part?about the job

Not offended by others thanking ability. Feel constrained by my lack.

It’s one that’s also the case in our area. The pass was issued ‘about a year ago’, so I think that common sense on this one is use the same photo and it won’t be a problem.
Our council (East Herts) is trying to get people to apply for HB etc online, which is a system that I absolutely refuse to deal with. 9/10 times, nothing gets looked at in the same time as good old fashioned paper, and with about 15 homeless people to my name at any one given time, it’s a myriad of forms and then calls to my mobile to chase everything up. I’m C/O BSTC/EHDC offices (the 2 that are in my town) for this exact reason, don’t want any of it coming to my address!
Also, I hate the new government rules on everything. All the HB forms need is ‘Name, address, rent, income’, not ‘describe what you do for a living’ and all this equality crap! I’m still encouraging mine to leave well alone on the forms, and I point blank refuse to turn over to the last page on anything, unless I’m asked to.
Anyway, done Tescos tonight, and have tomorrow off, so all should be good come the morning. Then you get a thread on my school run moan
A documentary I was a part of, in 2007 is apparently back on TV in a few weeks, I’ll let you know when its coming up!💙💛 💔0 -

The problem with HB online, as I see it, is that it disproportionately affects those the wrong side of the digital divide. The forms are long and complex and the people filling them out often don't have the skills to do them themselves. You then end up with someone with little money, paying over £6 in printing fees in a library so that they can take the form away, show it to someone who knows how to fill it out, then they are desperate when they have little/no typing skills and are trying to get the whole form filled out in their allotted amount of time. They fail and then end up having to pay yet another bunch of money for extra time as well as another print out showing they've filled the form out. Cost to someone on the breadline, about £15 for something that used to cost nothing. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
