Sigh. No avatars on silvercars computer. :(.

Silvercar, i like the layout of yours, that you have the fireplace near the chair, but not blocking the room.

Edit: that should be chair near the fireplace...sigh. The fireplace doesn't move!

I didn't realise you didn't still have him.

Hope you didn't mind the (lottery) photoshop picture of him :o

    :A

No, of course I didn't mind. It was funny. It's 4 years since he died, now, so while I still have a nostalgic feeling of missing him, I'm well over the first agonies of grief. If I couldn't bear to be reminded of the loss, I wouldn't have him as my avatar.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

My 'study' used to be the cupboard under the stairs, my new 'study' is my bed.......

It's much much warmer but not so easy to work with...oh and I don't bang my head anymore.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Not only does the fireplace not move, it doesn't fire. Although it dates back to the time the house was built, I'd never consider making and lighting a fire in here just for me to work, so we have had it capped to prevent draughts.

When the house was built (1937) I do wonder what the room was used for. I can imagine a big chair where the gentleman of the house (!) would sit in his slippers, smoking a pipe, reading the newspaper in front of the fire. A bit anti social when he could join his family in the lounge, with a larger fireplace.

The bit that is tidy (though I need to do something with the leads):

That's good use of the alcove and I see why you decided on the "open" desk because of the radiator.

Evening all. Not going to start a thread but Moody's has downgraded Italy, Portugal and Spain; and put the UK on negative credit outlook.

I'm now wondering if I would recognise my DW just from a photo of the back of 1 hand - I am almost certain I wouldn't recognise my own except possibly from the scars. I do think it is unfair that the skin on the back of one's hand probably looks the oldest and that it the bit one sees the most.
    I think....
