Mumbai (formally Bombay) which is the 4th most populous city in the world, though not a capital, is the one that sticks in my mind.

I know someone who's from there, and he still calls it Bombay!
    He won't have any Mumbai-jumbo. :)

...And don't let us forget Rutland, which nearly vanished into Leicestershire the 1970s:

'Royal Mail included Rutland in the Leicestershire postal county in 1974. After a lengthy and well organised campaign, and despite a code of practice which excludes amendments to former postal counties, the Royal Mail agreed to create a postal county of Rutland in 2007.'

How could they think of doing such a thing to the home of the greatest rock band ever?

Dear oh dear, talk about a non news story icon8.gif all they have done is offend the old car bods (including me 10 yo).
Bristol City goalkeeper David James has been fined for speeding in a 12-year-old Vauxhall Astra that typically trades for only £500. James, who was capped 53 times by England, was caught doing 90mph on the M5 in the V-reg banger in July of last year — 20mph over the road's 70mph limit.

Volgagrad to Stalingrad back to Volgagrad, (as indeed happened with St Petersburg), what is interesting here is that it happened in 1961 well before the breakup of the Soviet Union.

I was in quiz last week and was shocked to realise that we have a new ocean, The Southern, according to Wiki it suddenly appeared in the millenium :) Isn't it bad enough all those countries changing their capital cities icon9.gif
As we're supposedly a small planet doesn't it seem strange that the biggest things on it (continents, oceans) that surely only exist in single-digit numbers also seem to be the hardest things to count properly
