Got my new PC yesterday and it's seriously fast

Probably I'll add a half decent graphics card at some point. Nothing fancy though as I don't game...it's mainly for video editing, photoshopping, etc...0 -

I would not begin to try to bring up someone else's child BUT is this a symptom of growing up a bit urban and "prissy". Needs some "outward bound" type experience in the future which involves collapsing so knackered that sleeping in a hay barn fully clothed, seems like bliss. (Seem to remember that getting a suitable dose of pathogens at the right stages of development offers some protection from auto immune diseases?).PasturesNew wrote: »It's just like the olden days ... when we had ice on the inside of windows, no central heating (just one coal fire in the living room if it hadn't gone out) - and the morning bathroom dash was a thing to fear.
I actually like knowing the difference between winter and summer without looking at the calendar..lemonjelly wrote: »I can't wear socks in bed. It just doesn't feel right.
My feet are almost always cold. Not just in winter...
Let me support the wear a hat and sox faction, then pull the duvet over the top and sleep like a hibernating bear - helps keep that nasty cold air out of ones nose.0 -

my understanding is that we can work whatever hours we want to (as long as we do the standard 7 a day) and that we can work from home as much as we want. our main building is open 24 hours a day, technically so is this one (in that you can sit at your desk all day and all night) although they lock all the doors on the ground floor and the shopping centre underneath at about 2am so the only way you can get out between 2 and 5am is walking down 30 flights of stairs and going out the fire escape.
i intend to go to work at the normal time i.e. get in for about 9/9.30 and leave at the normal time i.e. go to the gym about 6/6.30 and then get to waterloo for the 8.15 train home. i don't think there will really be that much trouble with doing that, and if there is then i will just go in later and leave later!0 -
Got my new PC yesterday and it's seriously fast
For any computer nerd NP's (and for me to show off), the specifications are:
Inwin Z637 Micro ATX Screwless Case
Intel Core i5 2500K Processor 3.30 GHz (No Overclocking)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler
Asus P8H61-M LE/USB3 Basic Micro ATX Motherboard
8GB PC3-10666 1333MHz DDR3 Memory (2 x 4GB sticks)
Integrated Intel Graphics
1000GB 7200RPM Hard Disk
Sony 24x DVD-RW Drive
EZCool Basic 500W PSU
Onboard High Definition Audio
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Probably I'll add a half decent graphics card at some point. Nothing fancy though as I don't game...it's mainly for video editing, photoshopping, etc...
Also need an extra hard drive, but prices are quite high at the moment as supply is disrupted because of the Thailand floods, but once they come down, another 2TB would be nice....
Whoosh!:o
I need a new tower & keyboard. The tower on the home pc is 12 years old!:oIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

K is for Kelvin -- colour temperature
Brilliant explanation, you have to pretend that you are looking at the molten contents of a furnace and that is why K is our old friend Lord Kelvin.
"when you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in numbers, you know something about it; but when you cannot measure it, when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meagre and unsatisfactory kind; "
Mind you some of this shows just how out of touch and "stupid" he has become to seem:

Yesterday I bought the large Edison-Screw version (LHS) of these:
http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg//lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_27804.htm?offerdate=&ar2=
They incorporate the British invented SMD (?) LED improvements (The individual LED's look like they have been poked through little squares of yellow brown sticky paper.
My experimental one offers the following :
E27
3W
180 lm
3000K
Ra >= 70 (???????)
0 s = 100% (does not need to warm up)
230V
25 000 Hrs
Picture of rotary switch crossed out (Not dimmable)
It is trademarked "Livarno" (German?) replaced a 40w "J10" (Probably better known as 40W R50 ?)
and even DW could not see the difference - though it is not a bright as a similar 60W tungsten spot).
Unfortunately the design that replaces the four 35/50/75 GU10's (those little halogen spotlights that have two brass "nails" that push and twist to fit, but could cost as little at 50p to go pop. ) in DW's "office", had already sold out.
What I am going to do about the four G9 E rated "capsules" that require a "thingmyjig" to get them in and out? I don't know..0 -

That link goes to the store finder for me. :undecided0 -
How annoying - I must have a cookie on my machine that automatically takes me to the offers at my local store (we the poor people have got two lidl's in Basildon).
Click don't bother with post code (or feed in post code) and then go to "current offers" - "home comforts".
or try this:

Offers in Scotland and on the island of Ireland can differ - its partly because of the differing alcohol laws.0 -

i made a chocolate mousse cake on sunday, had one slice of it. it was awesome. got home last night at 11.45pm, craving cake.
the mrs had taken it all to work, and her colleagues had eaten the lot.
i was furious and pleased at the same time, given that it's not a great idea to eat 1,000 calories of cake immediately before going to sleep.0
