Lj, I almost went out for cake such is the craving, but instead am having a cup of herbal tea. And no, its not hitting the spot. At all. I am going out for lunch with a friend later in the week, maybe there will be cake then.
For emergencies, it is always worth keeping a cheesecake mix in a cupboard somewhere I believe...:drool:It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

not for me. Not that keen on that sort of stuff. Love a good baked cheesecake but it's an expensive and long endeavour for one piece. Instead I'll keep swigging herbal tea. I'm drinking one called sleepy time. Maybe I'll fall asleep quickly.:D0 -

if you've got the discipline to do it, eating 6 small meals a day is much better than 3 bigger ones. it does have a significant impact, but you have to prepare it all in advance and set alarms otherwise you forget to do it. it just turns eating into a mechanical chore, which is rather dull. frankly i'd rather eat a massive slice of cake at midnight and carry a few extra pounds.0 -
Just remembered my light bulb question!
You used to be able to get candle slight light bulbs that sort of flickered. I need to get a few of the lights from the villa retired and stuff, and want inoffensive candle bulbs....do they stll make these?0 -
I'm afraid I don't necessarily believe things just because "nutritionists say so". I have a suspicion that a lot of what nutritionists say is not evidence-based at all, so I don't take any notice of it.
Eating before sleep is natural for species such as ours. You hunt/gather your food, you eat it, then you sleep.
Oh, and as Doozer says, a hat will help a lot if the rest of you is wrapped up in lots of duvets but your head isn't. It's equivalent to the people wearing thick clothes but with their heads bare mentioned in lemonjelly's interesting article (thanks lemonjelly), who originally gave rise to this "lose most heat from your head" idea.
Thanks for the LED light bulb ideas, everyone. Will try Lidl. Nobody know anything about aerating shower heads, then????Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
is it only Tuesday? Feels like I've done a full week at work already0

Well I make 50 bulbs x 120 days x 6 hours/day = 36,000 hours so not unreasonable that one might fail. Interestingly I note they suggest that the luminosity may fall by up to 3% per 1000 hours so may be they will be too dim to use before 50k hours anyway?! Final thing to note is these ones are 120 degree beam width rather than the 60 degrees of normal halogens so better for lighting rooms with lots of them than lighting specific points as 'spots'.John_Pierpoint wrote: »
"after 4 months of the 50 bulbs probably 6 hours/day on average one has started to flash sometimes".
In theory they are claiming 50,000 hours, which sounds like a lifetime to me.
But may be following this natural pattern we also automatically store extra calories for times of famine(?) so possibly a reason to try an disrupt this?
Why aerating shower head or tap? Saving water might make sense if you have a meter but as all water is 'recycled' rather than lost and I suspect doesn't really take very much energy to supply in the grand scheme of things is it really worth saving it at the expense of comfort ?- with our softened water you want as much as possible in the shower just to help rinse the soap off.I'm afraid I don't necessarily believe things just because "nutritionists say so". I actually rather like the aerating tap in the downstairs bathroom, and would like to explore the idea of having a showerhead that gives the same feeling of lots of water without hitting me particularly hard that I get when I wash my hands with the aerating tap. Yes, I do have a meter. No, I don't have softened water.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
