Just us. The leak is between after our stop c0ck.NDG, could you try to find somewhere temp to stay for the week as it's really cold at the moment (had to happen during the cold snap!) and it might take a few more days before anything is decided? A cheap travelodge/b&b?
We could, in theory, stay with my parents in Blackheath - they'd be quite happy, but it's a hell of a trek to school for Isaac. And we're still sorting out stuff here, really. And feeling a bit worried about cash flow, too....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Well you are invited here ndg but also a trek Im afraid. At times with no heating we have used eletric rads rather than fan heaters and they are great -only about 40 quid, get some from argos or tesco or homebase - I could have brought one down for you today had I known.
I use a 4 tog duvet all through the year and I do feel the cold but it is never cold here- did the growing up with 2 duvets and ice inside the window and not doing it again.
We have led gu 10s in all our spots, 3.3w 60leds and they are great - about the same as 35w halogens but we can run 16 at once for less than 50w. Colour is sot white like a normal pearl bulb (not sickly energysaver). Also as we use 16 to light the whole room we got wide beam ones. I think they aren't dimmable but otherwise we are really pleased.
DW gets extremely 'sensitive' every month, I always think it is depression till I check the calendar.
Finally can I recomend an electrically operated garage door - go from house to garage, get into not too cold car, open garage door, drive out, close door without leaving car, collect plastic smiles from neighbours who are busy scrapping their windscreensI think....0 -

It might sound silly, but a hat will really help if you can find one that he can sleep in comfortably. I always have one at my aunts house - their boiler is in their room and they refuse to sleep with it on. The hat is the only thing that works for me - I'd sleep with the duvet over my head but it's suffocating.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I've always been single and a lot of the time heating's been a luxury - in fact, 2007-2009 I was in a place with scary storage heaters, so didn't turn them on (didn't know how anyway) .... instead I used a 1kW fan heater, for a max of 2 hours/day (it had to be very bad to have it on 2 hours, so usually 1 hour tops).
I spend my time under a duvet to stay warm, although that isn't a way to spend your life as it prevents you from doing anything vaguely normal and enjoying even having a coffee and watching the telly ... that's why I am LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVING it where I am, I've never experienced good/hot central heating before - and heating that's on 3x longer than any heating I've known before.... I'll really miss it when I move as I know I'd never be able to heat even one room for so long each day.0 -
Do you have any plug in heaters?
Yes, we have two fan heaters, borrowed from my parents. But I don't want them left on at all unless they are attended by someone who is awake. It's still very cold, though. Two fan heaters don't make much of a dent, especially with very high ceilings.Well you are invited here ndg but also a trek Im afraid. 4 tog? Are you sure? That seems very light indeed, not nearly warm enough. I think ours in Kent, growing up, were 15 tog, they were certainly very thick.Doozergirl wrote: »It might sound silly, but a hat will really help if you can find one that he can sleep in comfortably. I'll try that tomorrow. The trouble is, Isaac has rather fixed ideas about some things, and wearing jim-jams only for bed is one of them!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
If you want to talk to your friends on this board, but you've got something to say that has frankly nothing to do with house prices or the economy, or even moneysaving, then here is the place to do it, but please nothing contentious,
Sorry, might be a bit contentious, but............
If it has nothing to do with house prices or the economy, why reside in the house prices and the economy board?
If it has nothing to do with moneysaving, why communicate on a moneysavingexpert forum?
Surely there must be better locales to "have a chat" i.e. twitter, facebook etc, etc etc.
Have a nice day though.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.

We met here. We got to know each other debating house prices and the economy. Lots of us still do enjoy debating house prices and the economy. Sometimes we are tempted to go off topic though. Rather than clutter up the debate board with OT posts all over the place, we keep them on one thread, where nobody has to read them unless they choose to, and nobody's reading of the debate front page is disrupted by more than the one item.
As to why here rather than anywhere else... well, here is the place we have in common with each other. We mostly don't know each other IRL, and although some of us feel we know some of the others reasonably well after all this time, we certainly don't all know all of the others well enough to be comfortable moving the conversation to "real name" sites like facebook or twitter. But mostly, we are here because this is where this thread, this little cyber-community of friendships, developed without anybody's having planned it or intended it to happen, or even realised it was happening until it was already there. Those of us who belong to facebook or twitter have friends on there with whom we have lots in common, who belong to the same background or line of work or whatever. In here we get to know people we would never have the chance to meet in real life, even people we vehemently disagree with about various things (including house prices and the economy), and enjoy finding that we can be friends despite all of it.
I'm sorry if the thread is irritating to those of you on the debate board to whom it doesn't appeal. Thanks for wishing us a nice day - we hope you have a nice day too.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
