  • i want to cycle to work, it's about 14 miles each way which would be more or less perfect, but i am too scared to cycle through central london in rush hour.

Have a look at TFL and teh cycle routes, you might not need to go on roads much?

Do people really still make comments to women about it being the wrong time of the month? It was phrased worse than that and directed at me. I find that disgusting.

A person who said that sort of thing to be at any phase of the moon would regret it.
I used to love badminton at school! I have had no one to play since. I'm probably not up to it now.

OH and I play sometimes. I'd not played until a few years ago, but I enjoy it. good exercise, too.

  • If it's "the" pipe and not "your" pipe, if you see what I mean .... might be some chance that the neighbour underneath's happy to have his ceiling down to get at it. You never know, he might be sitting down there every night looking up at the old artex and thinking "one day I'll have saved enough money to get rid of that...."

Sadly, we don't have an underneath. We're ground and first floor.

Poor little Isaac. Do you have any hot water bottles or anything like that to ease his nights? It's horrid being so cold in bed it hurts, I really like the electric blanket I resisted for so long. Cold sheets have a certain erasure, but warm sheets are less an acquired taste.

Well, the other night when we went out we had half a bottle of fizzy water left over so I popped in ion my hand bag and just went to get it. In my sad life sparkling water is a real treat, I love the stuff , and I'm more gutted that their is none of it left than I am that my handbag and it's contents are socked through.

It's freezing here, too. Isaac woke up twice last night, cold, so tonight we're adding a sleeping bag for comfort. OH and I managed to keep each other warm, though
My top tip would be to place a duvet under the bottom sheet. It's like being in a sauna if you're lying on a duvet with the other half wrapped over you.... so two separate ones should be the same.

My bed ATM is : duvet and electric blanket underneath me, heavy duvet on top of my top sheet, medium weight duvet on top of that, then blanket.

Iwhen it was REALLY cold last year I added a couple of fleeces between me and top and bottom sheet.

So I sound tough in the cold but at night......

I once read that having cold feet makes you feel the cold much more than the rest of your body being cold and more like you to waken you. In really cold weather I wear socks in bed, OH is never impressed with this.

We don't have electric blankets or anything like that. I offered him a hot water bottle, and he was horrified, he said (and wouldn't be shifted) that it was dangerous. So I made one, and put it in his bed until he got into it himself, so at least it wasn't really cold when he got in.

"I don't like my house being cold. It hurts my senses." As Isaac put it.

I'm currently wearing my ski-ing thermals, and a wool dress on top. It's bloody perishing, 'ere - I don't know the temperature, but I can see my breath in our bedroom. It's marginally less nasty upstairs and in Isaac's roon.

I have found during the day slippers make the world of difference. Generally, but not always, whatever I wear to bed gets shed off during the night any way. Socks go very quickly.

Ndg, it might be worth getting an electric blanket for his bed as this might last a few days. Personally, I wouldn't let a kid sleep with it on, but rather get the bed good and toasty befor he gets in. As per silver cars post, I put mine low in the bed, so that my feet and legs and lower back are throuroughly warm, rather than shoulders and back and thighs....the way I see it, the feet bit of the bed always feels colder.

Isaac's wearing his ski-ing socks with his jim-jams tonight. Much to his disgust. Ski-ing gear has its proper place, and he doesn't reckon that place is his bed.

NDG, could you try to find somewhere temp to stay for the week as it's really cold at the moment (had to happen during the cold snap!) and it might take a few more days before anything is decided? A cheap travelodge/b&b?
