Huh? I didn't even mention a loan.... unless you mean the budget loan which comes out of your benefits before you recieve them with 0 interest so not really a proper loan, I took out a £500 budget loan earlier this year, its costing me £2 per week untill paid off with no interest, I'm sure if the OP did that they could afford £8 per month

You borrowed money. You are paying it back over five years. It's a loan.
    Can I help?
  • I think your all being very harsh,.. in this day and age why shouldn't she be entitled to a car? and some people are better at repaying to commitments than saving. Obviously it is those being harsh about getting a £2000 loan for a car that has the issue or problem.
I think moving nearer to town would cost more than a car. And is it this ladies fault her partner left her alone with a newborn baby?
Remember maybe just one day in the future you may lose your 'harworking jobs' and need help via benefits.

i also want a newish car for said reason, im sure most people would, unfortunately we are a 3 child, 2 parent family and just have to buy what we can afford

i tell you something you have a nerve saying you are 'just asking for help' do you not not think the honest hardworking people in this country help you enough?

and as for you wouldnt be able to get to hospital quickly - do you genuienly believe that we should all have cars just in case?

the chances of you getting a loan are very very slim, thank goodness

True, but I may be old fashioned and would not expect to be running a car in that situation. Many people who are working and not claiming benefits cannot afford the luxury of a car.

It's the word entitled I have a problem with.

She is not "entitled" to a car.

who said it was the OP's fault the partner left her alone, i know i never said that bu the OP should get him to pay his share for his childs upkeep.

If push came to shove and i lost my job(hopefully id be on JSA so could keep the car) and i had to get rid of stuff then yes id get rid of the car simple as but id also do my best to get a job asap.

It seems to be the "entitled" thing that gets most people into debt.

I'm a single parent, i work, i have a car. But, i don't feel entitled to one, if i couldn't afford it, it would have to go. I'm old enough to remember when cars parked on our street were a rarity, if you had a car, my word, you must have been well off !

My daughter doesn't believe me !

I'm not going to knock the OP, she's young and has a very young baby, yes, she has had some stick but all it goes to show, is how young and inexperienced she really is. I think she's got the answer she wanted, we should leave her alone now, remember, we were all young once.

She is entitled to have a car. She's just not entitled to have the rest of us pay for it.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Lots of nasty comments in this thread!

    Right....a couple of questions first.

What car do you currently have? You say it keeps breaking down, do you know what those issues were? There might be some friends who could help or have a look? I'm happy to help friends with their car problems if they have issues. If I'm local then I'd also be happy to take a look.

Its a forum to help people but all this forum is lately is judgemental.

She's unemployed and won't get a loan from a bank so that leaves Provident.

Save up some money and trade your car in for something slightly better but read reviews on cheap small cars that are reliable then your not going to be buying a problem.

Good luck to you love and ignore the rest :)
