Was the road conditions suitable for driving at 40 mph? A lot of drivers think speed limit is the minimum speed they should be travelling at no matter the condition of the road. I'm not trying to imply that you are one of those drivers.

However, drivers shouldn't unnecessary hold up traffic.

The road conditions was fine :)

If they wasn't, then although I would feel comfortable driving faster, I could understand (and therefore wouldn't be so frustrated) why they are driving much slower.

What you did wrong is not call the Police there and then! The second this man starting acting unreasonably you get your phone out and dial 911 & explain to the operator you are being threatened and require immediate assistance!

The problem with what you did is, if the guy did have insurance and was playing the insurance game, he would contact them first leaving you looking like a guilty party for not reporting an accident.

I was going to say the mistake you made was not to punch him! But then thats probably not a very constructive way of dealing with is, I guess? :)

Good to know that you are one of the responsible drivers :)
And yes, I read that part later on where you mentioned that there wasn't any ice and stuff.

You could also dial 112 from a mobile phone. That way the operator knows your phone number and also your rough location

    It's simple physics.

Air resistance, rolling resistance, and energy lost to braking (plus a couple of other things) all play a part.

so how does that help to save money when I have to go faster to overtake?

    That question makes no sense.

It's like being told you will save money if you turn your heating down and asking how that will save money if you turn it up to get warmer for an hour. rolleyes.gif

I live in an arse of a huge town at the bottom of a long peninsular. Effectively there is one road in and out (no train service). No one works in this town because it's so rubbish and there's no industry, no prospects, no jobs. Not surprisingly rush hour is something of a challenge as long streams of cars inch their way off the peninsular occasionally reaching the dizzying speeds of 6 or 7 miles an hour.

But what really gets me, what incenses me beyond belief is when you travel down this (40 mph) road outside of rush hour, looking forward to being able to reach your destination before you die of old age, you're invariably stuck behind some decrepit shit doing 25 mph.

  • I'm in agreement with the above, there are loads of 40, 50 and 60 limit roads around me and no-one ever gets up to speed. You'd be lucky not to run into someone doing 10-15mph below the limit if you do more than a couple of miles.

If you can't keep reasonable speed up on a totally open, clear and straight road, you really shouldn't be driving.

Maybe if you went back and read my original post; you know, the one you cut in half and commented on the first bit instead of replying to the comment in full.
