I've never worked out how going slow saves money.

    It's simple physics.

Air resistance, rolling resistance, and energy lost to braking (plus a couple of other things) all play a part.

Every day, on my short drive to and from work, I come across at least 3 complete numpties driving their cars.

    Old report I know

but there are loads of people driving who a) haven't passed or b) don't have any consideration for other road users

and why cant people INDICATE RIGHT when they turn RIGHT on a roundabout......

why do they enter the roundabout, and pass 2 exits without any indicators, then indicate left to pull off ???

Anyone aproaching the roundabout from the opposite direction assumes the oncoming vehicle is going straight on and attemps to pull out

NEVER assume an action on a roundabout when there are no signals from the other vehicle. That is the way to be involved in an at fault T bone.

Same with people that seem to be incapible of indicating now.

The road is a far more selfish place now, people cant see past the end of their own nose especially to look in the rear view mirror to see someone behind them, instead we are meant to know they will be turning/changing lanes.

I dont think they're incapable but more likely the indicator stalk is broken in some way, same with those who dont put headlights(due to the lights faulty) on when its starting to get dark

Going slowly while in your highest gear without the engine shuddering is probably most efficient.

These seems to give me the best MPG based on my projected miles left in the tank when i go from 15 miles of national speed limit into a 40mph speed camera road for 10 miles.

    Too true.

I was told, when learning, assume all other drivers are idiots.

Harsh, I thought at the time.

    True, I now think.

That's what I have read and seems sensible for a reciprocating engine (without electrical transmission).

For a vehicle with electric transmission, as slow as possible, presumably.

I was told: don't assume all other drivers are idiots but assume any driver may do something idiotic. Even non-idiots make the occasional mistake and assuming all others are idiots leads to a lack of respect and confrontational driving.

But the gist is much the same: Be prepared for anything.

I was once hit on a roundabout by one of the whiplash nerchants. I have never been so scared in my life. They hit my right rear (!) and forced me off the road in the middle of a roundabout. They (a man and a woman) jumped out and started screaming at me. Calling me a murderess and killing their five childrens mum and dad and swearing and in-my-face. I burst into tears and started shaking like a leaf. They then forced me out of the car. Give us your money to get our car repaired. I noted at that point that their car had dents, scratches and deep scrapes on every corner of their car. I gave them my phone number and they then got back into their car and drove off. Two nights later I got a call demanding money as he was off sick with whiplash injuries. Then I just went straight to the police (where I should have gone in the first place). They rang the guy and told him firmly and politely to go through the proper channels of insurance. He was known to the Police, and they knew he had no insurance. The point I am making is that I STILL dont know what I did wrong - driving wise. I get really scared now at every roundabout and although I indicate correctly I still feel as though someone is going to get aggressive and toot and flash their lights and then I would be pulverised by some horrible nasty screaming person....

I am an expreienced driver but this one really really shook me to the core.. It wasnt even a Sunday either - it was a Thursday!!
