Collins on-line dictionary definition of "most":

"a great majority of; nearly all"

Result of Scottish elections 2011 (Constituency Vote):

    Total Electorate - 3,978,444 (approx)

Electorate who voted for the SNP - 902,915 = 22.7%

Electorate who did not vote for the SNP - 3,075,529 = 77.3%

So, for every 1 person eligible to vote who voted for the SNP, there were nearly 3½ people eligible to vote who didn't vote for them.

    Not quite "most", is it?

    The Unready

By your own admission from the collins dictionary you are agreeing with me, if it means "a great majority" then looking at the map and the fact the SNP have a majority government that definition backs me up.

Just because the other votes for other parties are more this does not deny the fact that a great majority voted for the SNP, the vote is split between the other parties so therefore is not a great majority.

The same thing came up when the SNP won their first election - some people thought that the LDs should forgo their manifesto pledge and form a coalition with the SNP.

I know how I'd vote now, but the pro-independence lobby have 30 months.

The lib-dems going back on manifesto promises, that would never happen would it! ;)

I hope we can convert you into a yes vote over the next 30 months.

The debate should move on quickly the Scottish Government will publish a consultation on the 25th January, and should have their Prospectus for Independence ready by the end of 2012.

  • Oh, that Scottish oil. It might come ashore in Scotland but if you follow the line of the Scotland, England border into the North Sea, think again. Does Scotland "own" the North Sea? Surely the oil is the oil company's?

The UK government secretly moved the marine bounbdary, i hope this deceving act will be reversed with independece.

Tell me this why is it diffrent for Scotland? people are quite happy to call it British oil now, without this "is it the oil compaines oil"?

However to answer your question the oil companies own the rigs etc however they need to get a licence to drill the oil, then get a licence to bring it on-shore.

This is where the UK government makes its money and where an independent Scottish Government will make its money.

The oil companies may own the oil when it is drilled out but they need to pay to get it out in the first place.

What are you basing this on? the scaremongering from the unionists?

Scotland would be the sixth richest country in the world, fact.

This is usual scaremongering from unionists that we will end up like Greece, Ireland and Iceland. Heard it all before and all lies.

I disagree with a break-away, I feel that we are already far too integrated as a Union, and let's get it clear, the Scottish country is very split in its opinion, what would happen if 40% wanted to stay in the Union - 40% would be unhappy with independent Scotland? (if you see my point?)

Banks, all based in London ,companies mostly based in England, money would be taken out of Scotland and put into the English treasury as is the case with American companies in the UK at present.

I cannot see an independent Scotland having an over amount of change, and I think the financial cost for both nations for the result making Scotland much the same as it is now is silly. What are the major changes the SNP want?

A question I have is regarding my own nationality. Would Passports change (I haven't seen anything on this in my reading), I'm Scottish but have lived in England for a long time.

I just struggle to see why you want to spend billions of pounds to split for no major changes to be made?

And the point about Scotland abandoning Sterling (hahahahahahahhaha), is this because the Euro is such a strong currency? :p

I think you are getting confused between a parliamentary majority (which the SNP have), and a majority of the electorate, or even of votes cast.

A referendum will be on majority of votes cast, and so far we have not had a majority of votes cast for the parties supporting Independence (SNP, Scottish Greens, SSP, Margo etc)

That is democracy if 60% vote yes the 40% will have to accept it.

I think it would change and for the better.

The changes that the SNP want are everything that a soverign independent nation enjoys, making your own decisions.

A question I have is regarding my own nationality. Would Passports change (I haven't seen anything on this in my reading), I'm Scottish but have lived in England for a long time.

Yes, i would imagine there would be a Scottish passport.

I would also imagine there would be duel nationality for anyone that apllied for it, but this will be discussed in the near future.

I just struggle to see why you want to spend billions of pounds to split for no major changes to be made?

Because we will be able to make our own choices.

We will also have an identity and voice in the world and not be regarded as English.

And the point about Scotland abandoning Sterling (hahahahahahahhaha), is this because the Euro is such a strong currency? :p

Scotland does not want to abandon sterling, this is a new tactic being sent out from London.

It will only join the Euro with a referendum after independence and only if the people vote yes.

However it is not a simple as that.

Granted all those that voted SNP dont support independence it has to be said that all those that vote for unionist parties dont support the union.

Labour in particular has an electorate that could be swayed toward independence.
