Scottish Independence

  • By your own admission, you do not know what the SNP have done to the education system. As for the "fact" that the English take Scottish Oil, well that is just rubbish. Can you understand in any way that oil is global and OMG even China is involved?

The English dont take the oil as such, what i am getting at is that the English Government takes all the revenues from it that should be going to the Scottish Government.

Does anyone tell Saudi Arabia or when they get there act together Libya that the oil isn't theirs its global, and lets not forget the old chesnut you cant base your economy on such a volitile resource! ha what does the UK and every other oil based economy do.

I remember watching sky news and the reporter said in libya that the country is very rich with oil, strange how Scotland is in the same position but yet people believe the unionist scarmongering we will become bankrupt, rubbish.

You don't have to dig that deep to establish the fact that the Royal Bank of Scotland plc, is a company registered in Scotland no. 90312. As was indeed the Bank of Scotland plc (No SC327000) . Where a company trades or on which stock exchange its shares are traded is stupendously irrelevant in deciding who is responsible for its debt. Iceland had a number of banks that traded all over Europe. Ireland had a number of banks that banks that traded in the UK. You could have bought shares in any of them across the LSE. But when they all went down it wasn't 'England' that was lumbered with the debt.

So in this case, the fact that there was Scotland in the name means everything.

I have been told that the law they trade under that country takes responsibility hence the 90%, the fact they a registered in Scotland the 10%.

What English Government is this? The same as the UK Government? Is no revenue raised from UK taxation spent in Scotland? If any is spent is it a higher rate per capita than in England or lower?

Scotland without UK subsidies and in the Eurozone. Can't wait!

By this reckoning, Scotland would have had a £14bn deficit, or just under 10.6% of gross domestic product (GDP). With expenditure of £62bn, and revenue of £48bn, that's a big gap. Unsustainably so.

But then consider the UK's actual deficit of £157bn, or 11.1%. That's right - the UK's fiscal gap is bigger.

The report indicates that Scotland has 9.3% of UK expenditure, while it has 8.3% of the UK population. That's clearly a higher level of spending per capita. However, their contribution to the overall revenue of the UK is 9.4%.

This was for the year 09-10. In the year 09-08, Scotland had 9.4% of expenditure while contributing 10.3% of UK revenue.

What was that you were saying about Scotland being subsidised? While I would be sad to see the UK split.........I am utter sick of the argument that we are a financial drain. In the past years (before SNP) my council tax could have been lowered but instead, it increased. Do you know why? To offset council tax rises in England.

By all means, debate with nationalists that independence would not be good for the UK as a whole. But at least do so with backed up arguments instead of !!!!ing in the wind.

If you dig a little deeper when it comes to the banks you will find that as RBS traded in the FTSE in London they traded under English law so therfore England is responsible for 90% of the debt.

Just because it has Scotland in the name means nothing.

    I don't think so.

If we do gain independence, we will either thrive and prosper or we will have to lie in the bed we have made for ourselves (well either that or move :D).

Unholy, would you really want to have to join the Euro?

(A serious question, I'd really like to hear your thoughts)

What "English government"???? Don't you mean the BRITISH government, you know the one which has just had two Scottish Prime Ministers?
Jesus wept, if this the standard of debate that nationalists are capable of then I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

No but what I want as an individual doesn't matter. Its what the country wants a whole. Thats the way a democracy works.
