You really shouldn't judge people of whom you know nothing about. And it really is quite annoying how often you berate and belittle people on this board. It really is in very poor taste. Granted, you are not the only one that does it, alas your know-it-all attitude makes your judgemental tone stick out more than others.

Yes, 3 years is a long time, but you have absolutely no clue as to what the background of the OP is. You really do not know everything. And just in case it needs saying a third time. You don't know what lead to their anxiety, panic attacks, and probable depression. 3 years can actually be a quick turnaround in cases of extreme mental trauma, CPTSD and so on.

Anyway, I don't expect you'll take any notice of what I've just said, so I'll not darken the door of this thread again. I will say to the OP, though, that if you don't want this thread to turn into 10 pages of benefit-bashing, I'd do a google search for the Consumer Action Group and visit their benefit advice forums if you want advice without being judged.

I know that when you're ill you go and see the doctor - nothing judgmental about that.

I'm not advocating a life on benefits for this kid. Just that she gets what she should be getting while making the changes she needs to improve her life.

But unfortunately, if the OP were able to claim ESA and DLA (which is unlikely), she would have very little financial incentive to improve her life.

ESA+DLA (even low rate)+HB/LHA+CTB is going to be an enormously higher income than someone of 18 with no work experience and few qualifications would be able to earn.

If she doesn't seek help for any possible medical condition soon, she really is going to be facing a life on benefits and this is what many of us (usually with personal experience of mental illness ourselves) are trying to encourage her to avoid. (As I think you are, but in a slightly different way.)

I didn't seek medical advice when I was suffering from it. Ostrich syndrome. Until my old mam gave me a short sharp shock and told me what was what, and made an appointment for me to see the doctor and dragged me up there, I couldn't even tell the doctor, just sat in tears, but I'm still glad she did it :T

She's already going to the doctor, appointment made i believe.

That's a good thing and I'm sure it will help.

I only hope that the OP is going for the purpose of getting treatment and recovering rather just to get medical backing for a benefits claim.

I am reading all the replies and thank certain people for their kindness and understanding.

Also I find it a bit of an insult to say my OH is a lazy lay about, no he is not, 3 years he has been looking for work, sending hundreds of jobs away each month and only ONE temp job came of it, even though he has really good qualifications, its not easy to get a job, my OH hates being on benefits, he doesn't want to live this kind of lifestyle, ridiculous to judge him.
  • I suspect this may be a wind up..

Has he sought help with his CV and interview skills as there are clearly jobs about if he's applied for hundreds.

Of course he has, he goes away to a skill centre every week to try and look for jobs, he has completed lots of courses, most recent was his ECDL to try and make his CV look as good as possible and have skills to get into jobs, yes there are jobs about but he doesn't seem to be getting them!
