    Hmm - some things you do on the net are recorded by your ISP, and they are certainly under no obligation to record them for ever.
    Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

    The only downside of those free email accounts is the amount of knowledge these guys store concerning you. .... Everything that is for 'free' comes at a price really. Nothing is for Free.

    FYI to register for webmail and general sites (like this one, for example), you are not forced at gunpoint to put in details that are actually real. You can fake postcodes/zip codes from anywhere (Google them ;) ), and addresses along the lines of 21 Fairytale Street, Madeuparea etc.
    I never put real personal information for any sign-up unless it's a secure online shopping account.

    And as for the trail you make..

    So for anyone thinking about Gmail....go ahead and do it. It's great! :)

    For the more paranoid person here's an old article about the targetted ads thing: http://www.slate.com/id/2098946

    I started to use Gmail when it first came out. I was one of the lucky few and loved it.

    I then tested Google For Your Domain when that was released and love it so much that I have moved all of my domain emails over to it, even the ones previously with Windows Live.

    I also have a seperate email account which is what I give out to people who wish to contact me. I have set up a couple of filters with this email address meaning that if people enter a certain string in the body of their email to me it gets forwarded to my GFYD address, if they don't include that string in the email then it gets lost in the bowels of Google Headquarters!

    100% effective ;)
  • They Have an excellent interface and its quick too..

    Another handy hint to eradicate spam from your inbox, because the majority of them are html emails or contain some html element, is to set-up a filter as following...

    "Has the following words" html

    Then get people to send you only plain text emails, if they refuse or don't know how just add their friendly name in the SAME filter under senders with a - before it, as follows...

    -mike, -martin, -matt, -michelle

    This will allow html emails from these people to go through into your inbox, evading the filter to send all html emails to trash.
  • Didn't read all posts but:

    Hotmail = 1GB, if you choose Windows Live Hotmail [Yes, it's not just Mail anymore], you get 2GB.

    GMAIL = 2.8GB currently.

    Yahoo = 2GB also!!

    But thanks for that spam tip! :)

    Yahoo is still 1GB. And you are right the Microsoft is going to rename the Windows Live Mail service to Windows Live HotMail. But this has not been "turned on" yet.

    I signed up for this google mail and instead of a nice gmail.com account, I had a googlemail.com, which was far too long... ditched it, hotmail is better.
    That, is an excellent question...
