I love gmail, it's spam filters are great especially for ebay/paypal users, I get lots of spoof paypal emails and hotmail never managed to spot them. :beer:0

I too have been a gmail user from the early days and have sent many invites to friends and MSE users. I think it is a fab service, and the beauty of it is that if you change your ISP, you don't have to change your email address, which was always a pain in the past. I use it as a storage system really, as I have configured everything to arrive and be sent from Outlook Express. That way you can delete everything from OE, safe in the knowledge that it is stored on your gmail account. Also - no ads ! It is easy to do this, just go to your home gmail page, click on settings (top right) then 'POP & Forwarding'. Follow instructions. Be careful to check your SPAM once every week or so, as occasionally Google decide something is spam, and put it in the spam folder, when it may be something you want to come through. If you spot one like this, just highlight it, mark it as 'not spam' and it will be sent to you. You can have a gmail address for each member of the family too."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

The only annoyance I've found with gmail is the lack of IMAP, although I guess that would then lose them a lot of Ad revenue so isn't in their best interest. Would be a great feature to have though."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

just to echo what theloft said... check your spambox regularly. Just because you click on the "not spam" button, doesn't mean the next time that person emails it won't be classed as spam by Google again. That's the one big annoyance for me. That said, it still filters probably 95% of spam properly so it's worth having if you can be bothered to sift through hundreds of potential spam emails each week just in case...Te audire no possum. Gmail is excellent, so much so I moved my domain name across to google for free - http://www.google.com/a/ from my paid hosting company.
This allows you to have up to 50 accounts at <user>@<yourdomain.com> each with 2 gig, your own webpage, start page, calendar for your domain and so on.
You will have to change your DNS entries on your domain and this varies depending where your domain is registered.
Note: I registered via https://www.google.com/a rather than https://www.google.co.uk/a

I should have said that I registered through http://www.google.com/a as after trying the UK version first it just said google would contact me later (nothing yet).
Appears google.com version offers the start page which google.co.uk does not according to the page.

faqquer,
You can delete conversations leaving only the bits you want within a long thread. If you click the "more info" tab, which has recently turned into an arrow on the top right of each conversation, you can select delete. Although Ive just tried this on a Mac running an old version of Safari and I can't click the arrow at all..

We've been using it for ages and have now set up a joint account with a calendar. Now my OH doesn't double book us all the time which is an improvement!
The other functionality including the homepage that you can now set up to show all kinds of stuff is great as well.
I can see the preview of our email inbox on the homepage from work even though I can't access gmail from there - so I know if something has come in :-)Happy girl!0 -
I've had a gmail address since it first started and can thoroughly recommend it.
If you also have a pop mail address you can have gmails forwarded to your pop mail inbox whilst still retaining the original mail on your gmail account.
Whilst on the subject of Google I would also recommend having a personalised Google home page which you can set to come up when you first go online. There are countless modules you can add to this including ToDo list reminders, weather reports, Stock market quotes, links to Wikipedia and news headlines etc etc. It also checks your Gmail for you and lists any unread mails; a click takes you directly to your inbox. 10 out 10 to Google - no I don't work for them!0
