HELP NEEDED recorded delivery problem

After sorting through the pile of paperwork christmas eve we noticed we had a letter for next door so posted it through the door and didnt think anymore about it
I'm confused too, if you posted it through their door then why didn't they get it?? And why would you pay him for something you delivered to him?0

From how I read it, the tickets were for a trip on the 22nd and the OP posted them through the door on the 24th? I think.:jHappily Married 12/09/09:j:jDS1 born 22/08/10 7lb 6oz:j

The problem is that the tickets were dated 22nd December and they posted them through the door on 24th December because the son had forgotten about the letter and it was only found on Christmas Eve.
I would have thought postie should always put a card through someone's door to say where the item is if it's not been delivered to named address. Not saying the neighbour is lying but did you see the date on the tickets? Just wondering....Don't Throw Food Away Challenge January 2012 - £0.17 / £10
 Grocery Challenge 16th Jan - 19th Feb 2012 - £254.72/£200 (Ooops very bad start)
 Grocery Challenge 20th Feb - 8th March 2012 - £0/£2000

            I wouldn't have paid them.
If the tickets were the 22nd then they would have been chasing the company - the company can check the recorded delivery slips and the signatures are uploaded onto the computer.
The responsibility for ensuring that the parcel was received lies in my mind mostly with the neighbours who should have been chasing - and then with the postie who should have left a card saying where the parcel had been left.
I would blame my 13 year old in partly - but for the smallest part of the mix up.0

If the tickets had'nt arrived before concert date I would've been chasing up. If neighbour had done this then they would've realised that they had been signed for by the son.0

there should of been a card put through his door stating where his recorded delivery was as its down to the post office to make sure a recorded delivery should get from A to B
Can anyone shed any light on this and tell me who is in the wrong, we have already paid the neighbour as we felt so bad about it
thanks to anyone that can help
The postie - obviously. It's actually not up to you to hand deliver your neighbour's post - if the postie had put a card through the door they would have come round and picked it up themselves.
The neighbour should hand your money back, and claim through Royal Mail for the postie's short cuts.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

Well we said that and he said he just put the pile of things in the basket cos thats what usually happens cos we put parcels/letters on the table so the things dont get lost and goes to correct ppl in/outside of household but because there was a basket on the table (big clear out before christmas) he just put it in there not thinking about the other junk mail /letters in the basket. I was busy and as soon as his friends called he shouted saying his going out etc and then forgot all about it
We always have taken parcels/letters in and never had a problem before because its usually me or another adult to sign for them
He knows now not to sign and i said to him if something needs to be signed for he asks the postman to wait until he gets an adult, but its not all about the money really im a bit annoyed that any age can sign for a parcel when the contents of a parcel is unknown0

            How annoying!
I work from home at the moment, and regularly get asked to sign for and take in packages for my neighbours. About half the time they are surprised when I take their parcel round in the evening, as no card has been put through their door. The courier companies are better at leaving a card than RM.
It's true they don't care who signs, though; on one occasion I was in the bathroom when the postman knocked. My seven year old grand-daughter opened the door, but perhaps luckily she only speaks Spanish so didn't understand what the Postie wanted when he thrust his electronic-signature-gizmo at her. I had a few hard words for him when she ran to fetch me, but he just shrugged and said he didn't have time to hang around.0

I agree it was the postie taking short cuts as its there responsibility, the neighbours have rang but they are not getting anywhere0
