    Debt-free and Proud!
Thanks all for the good wishes and crossed fingers!

I will keep you posted of course. One bit of good news is that the house insurance paid out for the Ipad dropped on the floor, It couldn't be repaired so they replaced it so went from an Ipad 2 to a 4. OH was well pleased.

I copied the template and posted it the next day. Today I've had a letter from TSB saying they will freeze the interest until June. Whats annoyed me though, is the fact that I originally owed them £1500 on my overdraft, and in the three years I've been with Step Change, this is now down to £1263 (it would have been a lot less if they hadn't charged £19 interest and £6 a month overdraft fee), but now they have put my debt back to £1500 and are treating it like a new start. In three years I've paid them with my DMP, they've had £900 off me, though most of that has paid the interest. This is so frustrating! I know I'm to blame for my debt, and I know banks are a business and not a charity, but this just feels so unfair. It's like chipping away at an iceberg with a toothpick. I think my next step is to write to the FOS. Fingers crossed it will be sorted soon. _pale_

They simply can't do that! Surely this has to be a mistake, Lloyds TSB are well known for their nonsense letters and one dept not having the slightest what another is doing

Get on to the FOS today, tell them the full details and say you want your interest frozen, a refund of all interest and charges paid over the last 3 years and this "new start" issue sorted out too.

One thing to remember about Lloyds TSB is that they expect a DMP review every 6 months but StepChange (ex CCCS) only usually send one every year. The one decent person I have ever spoken to at Lloyds TSB told me to put a reminder on my calendar and to phone CCCS to remind them. Do this for May to remind them to send out a review in June.

Good luck Lizzy and please keep us updated :)

    Hi everyone

Sorry I haven't said hello for ages. I just needed to stop whingeing :-) and get on with my DMP for a bit! Now all my circumstances have changed and I am trying to sort myself out but I could really do with a break for a month or two. My partner is out of work at the moment and so we host his 3 children in my 1-bed flat every weekend. I'd really love to move as it's not fair to them but I can't come up with the deposit up front and need to pay slightly more rent monthly. Plus there are the moving costs. I asked Payplan whether they might negotiate a payment holiday and they said they can't, I could just pay each of my creditors a pound, but they may cancel my agreement and start charging interest again. Surely I'm not the only one whose circumstances change while on a DMP. Can anyone suggest how I can manage this?

We had a letter today from HMRC saying we owed some money, I rang them and its a debt from 2008 which they say we hadn't settled for PAYE which has being accruing interest at a rate of 12p a day for the last 3 years.
They said they won't deal with SC an want us to make an offer. I said £40 a month but they want £145 instead - no way can we afford this...... We have saved £40 a month by changing our power supplier so this was a cushion. I am unsure where to go on this, I know some other posters also had businesses so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Debtdonkey and welcome aboard !

This is the link to the Amigo Loans website

amigoloans.co.uk and I refer you to this :

What about when things go wrong?

We collect late payments in the same way as any high street lender would. If a loan falls into arrears we will phone, email and text a reminder. Our priority is to stop a late payment snowballing into a bigger problem. Obviously, because our loans are supported by a guarantor, if a borrower doesn't repay then the guarantor has to. In a few very rare cases, where we can't come to an arrangement for repayment with either borrower or guarantor, as a last resort we will either pass a debt onto a professional debt collector or ask a court to decide the best way to deal with it. Whatever happens we will NEVER put your home or other property at risk. We've made 10 promises on how we'll deal with arrears.

I have a horrible feeling that as soon as you default (because your going into a DMP), that they will ask the guarantor to clear the debt.

You are now in a catch 22 situation , in that to enter the DMP with Payplan you have to include EVERYTHING (including the Amigo Loan) and as soon as you do you default.

Is the guarantor a good friend who would be willing to pay the loan off for you and let you repay it when you get debt free ? or will they get upset when you tell them of this situation ?

You need to remember that if you default and they cant pay it off for you, then their credit rating will take a hit as well as yours.

Please come back if you need any more help.

I've had a few discussions with my employer and they have agreed to pay my Amigo Loan in lieu of overtime (which they have guaranteed) this will knock off £4000 over the length of the loan.

I will have to lower my proposed payment for my DMP and in the short term would things a little tighter, but I will be able to pay them back within 10 months, then I will be able to increase the DMP payment.

It really will make things much smoother and take away the risk to my guarantor. I feel I can relax a little now.

I'm glad you have found a way to protect the guarantor - it must be a big weight off your mind and now you can move forward with the DMP. You'll soon be on your way to debt freedom (a long hard slog but the sooner you start the sooner you finish) :)
