Hi, been absent for a few days so would like to say hello :hello: to the newbies out there. It is a worrying time starting a DMP, but in a few months time you will be saying to yourselves 'what was I getting so het up about?'

I see we also have some budding 'Delias' out there too. Are we going to have a slow cooker club now as well as a geek club?:rotfl:

Our DMP is ticking along. HSBC still charging interest though. The car is due for its MOT which is a bit of a worry. However the HP on the OH's car finishes soon so more cash to go towards debts:T

iwantafreshstart - managing money. I pay everything monthly by DD where possible. The stuff I can't pay monthly such as the car tax I put that money aside into a different account where I try not to touch it until needed (doesn't always work if an emergency comes along though). That basically leaves the food, petrol and general spending money, so I draw the cash each week and stick to spending just that. When its gone then its gone although with petrol this is tricky sometimes because we have to get to work. It doesn't happen often because we have put in a realistic amount in our budget for the petrol which usually covers the cost. It has taken a while to perfect the system and get OH on board with it but it seems to be working now.

  • hi all,

first time post, so sorry if in wrong forum. i'm at step 1 with my DMP with payplan, but at this stage i'm worried sick, sleepless nights etc all i now think about and tonight i broke down at work as the conversation was about money, loans cc's. No light and end of tunnel it seems, threating phone calls from Halifax. Just feel very alone at the moment, appreicate this my own stupid fault, my fiencee has been understanding, and dont want to burden my mum with more worry, after my father (best friend and confident ) passed away this year.

Any help or encouragment would nice

    Thanks

Hi stunic. So sorry to hear about your Dad. It must be hard for you to deal with the money worries when you are still grieving for him. Please believe me - there is light at the end of the tunnel. We have all been there (worried, sick etc.) at the start of our DMP's and no way are you alone. Just look at how many of us are here on this thread all doing exactly the same, and yes for most of us it was our own stupid faults too. Things will get better. It might not seem like it at the moment but they will, and things will settle down and it will be fine. If you hit any problems you can always come here for advice, encouragement or just to let off steam. The phone calls will calm down too and if they don't there are things you can do to stop them. For the moment just tell then you are with Payplan doing a DMP and give them your reference no. and don't pay them anything extra even though they will try to persuade you to.

You have done the hardest part. It takes a lot of courage to face up to your debts and tackle them head on. So give yourself a pat on the back and try not to worry (easier said than done I know!)

  • THANK YOU GROWUROWN

Just pulled myself together again after you nice reply. Spend most nights on hear reading as much as i can about different things, don't know if this is adding to my worries about what could/will happen. In regards to sorting things out i seem to take 1 step forward then 10 back and it knocks me for 6. Everything seems so difficult at moment. Thanks again, would like to keep you up to date as time goes on

Hi stunic. Anything you experience in your life there will always be someone who has done the same thing and got a horror story. But that is just one person's experience. If you have been reading this thread then you will know for most people once their DMP is set up and the creditors get used to the idea they tick away in the background and you can get on with your life. Things will knock you back along the way but they can be sorted. We had a huge bill for our car and had to reduce our payment one month. Some of our creditors kicked off but a few phone calls and a letter from CCCS put everything back on track.

Take one day at a time, and then hopefully things will seem more manageable.

  • Hey,

This is my first post since I have faced up to the fact that I can't do this alone - I have tried and slogged through trying to pay off my debts alone but I couldn't manage it. I have had sleepless nights and worried myself sick.

I had my LBM on the 24th and after reading through this site I decided to contact CCCS and what a releif it is. The paperwork is now all sorted and my DMP starts on the 1st November.

So I just thought I would say hello and thanks to everyone on here, there are so many inspirational stories. I am looking at the challenges and will be choosing one to start with.

    Jo

    Hi Jo and welcome :hello:

Well done on taking the first, and most difficult steps, in your debt free journey :T

You will find loads of advice, experience and support here, this thread has been a real life saver for me and I have picked up so much knowledge which has helped immensely with our creditors. It's also a great place to have a whinge or a rant on those days when everything goes wrong! Please stick around :)

    Hi stunic and welcome :hello:

I would say you are in exactly the right forum because we are all in the same boat and can hopefully offer you some support to get through the start up of your debt free journey :)

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your father and you must feel like everything is very difficult at the moment. The debt situation does get easier with a DMP, the first few weeks can be a bit of a rollercoaster but it all settles quickly and when you start to see your debt go down month after month, it makes it all worth while :T

Please stick around and ask for any advice, help or support that you need :)

  • Hi all,
I to have been lurking in the background for a few weeks. I am just in the process of changing over from DMP who deduct money for fees to a free one (fingers crossed). I am still having sleepless nights cos I haven't told my OH and keep thinking we are going to lose the house as we have a joint mortgage, We have no mortgage arrears but I am pretty sure that our fixed rate ends May 2013and he will want to re-fix it, that is when the s**t will hit the fan unless I can pluck up enough courage to tell him before.

    Afternoon all,

Hope everyone is well. Update for you, although I am sure you are all bored of me by now!!

Just had a call from CCCS, all my details have been received. They have questioned my income due to the overtime/bonus I receive. Initially my budget left me with a payment of £548 to the CCCS, but they do want to include my overtime so altered this to over £750! I think this is going to be a bit tight so the kind lady has increased my food and hobbies budgets slightly so that my payment is now £666 (devils number). Obviously once all setup I will be able to better judge my budget etc...

Everything else was accepted with the fist payment being taken on the 1st Nov. There is still a lot to sort though. I need to move all my direct debits from the HSBC to the new account. CCCS have confirmed they won't contact the HSBC until I inform them it is OK to do this (nice relief). How easy is moving the direct debits? I have already moved a few manually by ringing the companies direct and giving the new details, should I just continue down this avenue?

Also the CCCS lady told me that my wife should expect the bank to start chasing her for payments towards the overdraft as it is in joint names. She suggested my wife making a separate payment to the bank (say £10 a month) to possibly stop the hassling. Is this common practice to pay extra on top of the CCCS?

    Thanks

Thanks to everyone on the DMP forum, and to SC for helping me out of this huge hole.

    Hi Everyone,

Still got some catching up to do on here. Looking forward to reading about slow cooking as I have one. It hasn't been used during summer but I've bought the ingredients to make chicken stew and dumplings this week as the weather is getting colder.

Well my first payments all cleared last month and I was hoping that would be the start of something good but I've just checked my online statement from HSBC and they're still charging 17.8% interest and asking for a min payment of £220 more than my monthly wage  So today I'm back to writing letters again reminding them I'm on a DMP, asking for interest freeze, blah blah blah :(
Can anyone tell me at what stage should I contact FSA and what do I say apart from "they won't freeze the interest & please help me!". Barclaycard are also digging in at 6% so they've got another letter too.

Our 2nd payment has just gone to CCCS so I'm hoping maybe it will settle down soon but I don't want to take any chances.
