I have today written to my 4 creditors (after checking with Payplan first !) to get the balances on my accounts, as my DMP is supposed to end on 2nd December this year (Payplan are quoting me a figure but I want an up to date one).

I need them to plan ahead for any nasty surprises I may find - I already know that HBOS have charged interest in the past, but Captial One & Cahoot havent (to date) and neither has Santander on my overdraft.

In December I would have completed my DMP of 84 instalments.

For people worrying about your creditors NOT accepting you DMP I wouldnt worry, as long as you stick to the proposed payments and make them on time you wont have problems because you are making payments - if it went to Court they would be laughed out of Court BECAUSE you are paying.

I know what the stress is like at the start when you start the DMP journey, because I have been there - one of my creditors (HBOS) rang me every day for at least a month demanding payment, I told them that I was setting up a DMP and they should talk to PayPlan.

Once my DMP was set up in Dec 2005 and first payment was made, I didnt have another call, I have had default letters from all my creditors, of which the last one will drop off on 24th December 2014 but as I am not planning on getting credit again that doesnt bother me !.

To all of those starting their debt free journeys (Grant 1 Wish et al) remember YOU are control because YOU have faced upto the situation and are dealing with it, you cant pay money you havent got and you are still entitled to live, even though your on a DMP.

Here endeth the lesson and good luck to you all, from someone who will shortly be debt free.

Well today I got the first 2 responses from the 4 creditors I wrote to, do you want to know the results ??

    1) HBOS Outstanding amount £1869.85 (including approx £1500 interest which I knew about
    2) Robinson Way (ex Cahoot) £429.73 and NO INTEREST
    3) Capital One £128 and no interest
    4) Santander (Overdraft ) £95.00

Both amounts do not include the payment made this month, so both *should* still finish on 2nd December 2012 - The HBOS interest I will dwal with next year.

So not all creditors charge interest !.

Well done antonic. You must be looking forward to being debt free. HBOS are a mega pain in the proverbials aren't they?

Antonic - so you will definitely be debt free before the year!! :j

DH took the car for its MOT yesterday. It was a nailbiting time waiting to see if it passed. So we were really pleased when we got the shiny new MOT certificate but (there's always a but isn't there) then they dropped the bombshell that the clutch is on its way out and needs doing ASAP and for a c-max it is going to be the best part of £700  And no, we don't have it! DH definitely has to have a car because his shifts/location mean public transport is not an option. Well and truly p'd off!!

HI Allypops that is a nightmare but would have been way worse if they didnt give the MOT cert without undertaking the works. So although not best time of year would save and perhaps looking to see if a nice local garage is able to do for less as £700 for a clutch seems an awful lot.

    have a good everyene

Anyone with experience of getting Lloyds to suspend interest and charges (with or without a FOS complaint) can you give some wisdom here please?

    Thanks. :)

hello folks - thought I'd pop in and say hello with an update (more info on my diary)

So, coming up to a year (Jan) and we're still plodding on. Had some bad news though, last month, as Mr BR's salary has dropped by £120 a month! Our payments to CCCS have had to go down, again, and now we're looking at 28 years unless something changes!
Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

    Oct 2012 = Current debt: £40,548.93
    Oct 2013 = Current debt: £39.054.70
