Moan coming on, look away now if easily offended
Not a good start to the day or October as car would not start this morning, called AA and they started it but it needs a new battery and they offered me one for £106.99. I said no and checked Halfords and they wanted more so have just done some online research and found an identical battery from an independent local retailer for £65. Great saving but still £65 we have to find from somewhere. So I am off work, having to use my flexi time which I was saving up and having to part with £65 which could be paying a debt
I have used the time to make the brine solution for HH's pulled pork recipe and that is going in to soak now and then will be cooked all day tomorrow. Mouth is watering already at the thought
Am with my twin all the way on food savings and slow cooking, be it in an actual crock or in a casserole dish in the oven on a slow cooker setting, is the future
Sorry to hear about the car. Well done for getting sorted.

That must be so annoying !
I am lucky that I dont need a car to get to work (or do my shopping) and my Civil Service employer gives me an interest free loan each year, to buy my annual travel pass to get to work (£1152 this year or £96/mth).
I also use the pass for leisure activities and seeing my dad.
Wow, that's lucky!
Do they do DMPS?!!!

I need some inspiration!
I regularily do joints of meat, chicken, gammon, lamb, beef. Im most cases I just fling it in dry. Most contain so much juice anyway. Even if I want gravy meals I usually start of this way and then use the concentrated juice for the gravy. As TTFTM said you can use veg in it or just pulses in too. There are pages and pages of slow cooker recipes on here.

Hope everyone is well. Just transferred a tenner from my current account to the new one I have set up and it all seems to be working fine. For the first time in 3 years I am not frightened to log on to my bank account and check my finances as I know exactly what I have and when my Direct debits are coming out etc... You would not believe the relief I currently have regarding this. Many a time I have just not been able to log in knowing that it was going to look bad.
Still a long way to go though, DMP application not even been received by CCCS yet. If it all goes through I think I will be the happiest man alive. Already I am sleeping better.
Just need to give the wife some more time to come to terms with it all, we are still extremely volatile. She is adament that we are going to get debt collectors knocking and lose the house. This isn't going to happen is it?

Hi G1W
Have they given you a reference number yet? If so you can use the DMP login. Press the forgot password button and it will ask you to verify some details and let you into the account. When did you send the application in?
It is very very unlikely you will get a debt collector at the door providing you pay them. You can check pack through pages and pages and pages and see how very rare it is. Like I said to Stuart have you looked at ways to get your wife onboard rather than you shouldering the burden alone?

My pulled pork is brined and ready to slow cook tomorrow. We can't wait :j
Tut tut, you are naughty but wouldn't have you any other way.
Good stuff. I made a couple of cartons of stuffing up into balls in the oven. Divided the 2 lamb shoulder up into 18 small tubs with 2 small stuffing balls worked out 48p a portion). Love taking them from the freezer and stuffing a bap with that and a smidge of apple sauce. Yum Yum.

Dear All
Can anyone help with a nagging doubt I have about DMP?
My family and I live in private rented accommodation on a rolling lease (secure for the next 12 months) the only thing keeling me up at night now is how badly will the defaults affect our ability to rent in the future?
Is anyone else in a similar position?
Many thanks

Have you got your wife to read these pages?
Not wishing to be rude but have you given her some specific responsibiity eg food shop budget or do you go through budget and spending log together? Protecting people by not involving them and over burdening yourself doesn't given them a chance to get on board etc.
Hope that helps and things start to get better soon
HHx
Thanks HH.
Although entering into a DMP was my idea, the wife was glad we did it. I guess I have tried to do everything myself with regard to the DMP so that I know exactly what is going on and what money we have coming and going.
It's just that when I try to explain to her what is going on and what our budget for the month is, that when the arguements start.
Our "first of the month" is actually the 10th, my payday. I explain that all our priorty debts get paid on the 11th of each month and what is left over will get split into 4 weekly amounts to cover living and household expenses. This is what usually starts her off as she thinks it will not be enough to cover shopping, kids club fees, childminder, petrol, etc, and that it is going back into the dark ages a bit whereby I am giving her "housekeeping money".
I guess it will get easier as this month will really be our first proper month at trying the budget idea. Hopefully it will work out and she can see it working.
Apologies for a bit of a rant but needed to vent somewhere.LBM - August 2012

Thanks to all on MSE. :T0 -

Rant anytime you want.
With respect it's not you giving her money it's you both applying the budget that has been set that many others have live on.
As you say, it takes time to adjust, but, at least you will have a future for her and your kids this way.

Hi
I would call CCCS/Payplan and Nat Debtline for advice on this. Some places I read it's ok as you sort of pay as you go with a contract so they can evict you if you dont pay. Other places suggest you have to put the money upfront for several months. There must be lots of others in this position so hopefully those helplines will let you know.
Have you considered posting on ask CCCS a question thread? https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2402327
Found this on the CCCS website
If I rent from a private landlord will I be credit checked?
Some private landlords use a rental agent to find new tenants and they may do a basic credit search. They will check your previous addresses and will see if you have any county court judgments or if you have ever been bankrupt.
If you are worried that this may affect you being able to rent, you could offer to pay a larger deposit. You could also ask a family member or friend to be a guarantor for your rent or supply references from a previous landlord.
So probably ok if you dont have the above?
Let us know how you get on please as it will help others too.

Thanks HH for the response, I'll see if Payplan can offer any advice.
I can find lots of conflicting advice on the net, on one hand people saying landlord checks can only see ccj's or bankruptcy because they are in the public domain with defaults and late payment records not being accessible as they aren't in the PD.
Then others saying the opposite and that they can identify people in a DMP, will post any advice I can get on the forum.
Very confusing!
