DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 8

Savvysass,
Yes cancelling the DD's is a daunting moment. In terms of token payments, they are exactly that, whatever you can afford at that time? Just a show of goodwill rather than paying nothing?

Hello everyone and thank you for your kind words.
Yesterday I felt elated that I was taking control, today I am feeling scared and nervous, however I know this is normal from reading back on your threads. It has been an horrendous year for us but perhaps now things will start getting slightly better, I feel we have reached rock bottom so the only way is up.
I have just cancelled direct debits, that in itself was scary and I am going to get the template letter ready to send off to them all.
Did all of you make token payments until your plan was started? If so how much? I dont want to make too much then CCCS offer them less
Many thanks all x
It's ok to just make £1 token payments, it's all about showing willing to continue paying back your debt rather than the actual amount.
Doing stuff like cancelling DDs is scary, I felt for the first couple of weeks that every move we made was without any sort of safety net. It's a real emotional rollercoaster, elated one moment and in floods of tears the next but watching the debts actually go down and being able to sleep at night makes the first few weeks worry all worth whileLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Hi all!
Savvysass, I think what many others have done, and what I wish I had done, is to send £1 token payments along with a letter explaining that you are having financial difficulties and are consulting with CCCS regarding a debt management plan. That gives you a chance to put a little bit aside for emergencies before the DMP starts.
I also wanted to send my condolences for your loss. It should remind us all that however bad the money situation may be, it is just that: only money.
Take care

Thaks jenjen - I'm old before my time and I simply don't trust giving out my bank detaisl. Its good to know its safe though for future needs.
Ebay are quite happy with my conduct and have refunded me the fee. I can't leave negative feedback for the buyer unfortunately, but they are now on my 'blocked users' list.
Where are you October payday?!?!?Debt Sept 2007 (1st LBM) - £63,000 :embarasseStarted DMP July 2012 (2nd LBM) - £34,000DFD (currently) - 12 years!"Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get up."0 -
Stuart - as crude as it sounds I have found that I have to get everything out of the way as early as possible. Pay all DD's / SO's inc the DMP on the 1st. I know what we spend on shopping in the month so that gets transferred to the boss. Transfer rainy day / sons saving account money etc.
Anything I'm left with I try to divvie up into the 4 / 5 weeks of the month as best I can. With everything accounted for up front I find it helps me breathe. I'm nothing thinking "i've got X in the account, and there's bound to be something to pay for".
Let me know if this works for you?
Thanks DP30.
My payday is the 10th of each month so I will be using that as my 1st of the month. I have now cancelled all DD's and set up standing orders for my all Proprioty Payments, which are the same every month to leave my account on the 11th of each month. I can leave the correct amount in my account to cover these then transfer the remainder into our other account and budget for the month with this. I'm also thinking about setting up another account so that I can put aside a monthly amount to cover things like car tax then when this due the money is already there and I don't have to take it out of my monthly budget.
The DMP payment is set up for the 1st of each month and this will come out out of the wife's wages, paid on the last working day of each month.
I have also downloaded a Debt Manager App and Spending Log App for my phone and will use this to try and keep on top of things.
Hopefully this will all work
September has been a real struggle for us with a vets bill, MOT and repairs and car tax all needing to be paid. Glad the DMP starts on the 1st November as this will give us October to have little bit of breathing room - unless we get anymore surprises.LBM - August 2012

My pay day is last working day of the month but DH is paid 4 weekly which is a real pain as far as DDs and budgeting are concerned.
Perhaps I need a spreadsheet!!Allypops
