Hi everyone, its Friday YAY! I've had a rough week, was feeling very low about our situation, wondering if the DMP was the right thing to do etc.... but now I am officially set up thanks to CCCS.

So today is a good day for me so far. Hope you're all feeling positive today and thanks for making me laugh (re-reading your earlier posts!).

Hi CBC welcome aboard. Glad things are looking up for you.

A small positive should find out about my PPI claimback with lloyds tomorrow or Monday latest. Finger's x'd. Might only be a few hundred £ but still better in my pocket than theirs!

Good luck D3P0, I need to look into this PPI stuff as well. As you say better in your pocket than theirs!

Growurown... I actually had very little information aside from the dates of the loan which I got from experian under my "credit agreements". Lloyds just looked it up and within 30 seconds she'd found the loan, PPI etc. I made a statement on the mis-sell and was told there'd be a decision in 3/4 working days.

Martin's done a piece on claiming back PPI from various banks etc http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

    Ch ch check it out...

I will - thanks. What happens if they disagree with your statement and say you weren't a victim of mis selling?

  • I've also had my first letter from one of the creditors saying they will freeze the interest and stop charges until they hear from CCCS.

Great news! Fingers crossed for all the others :T

Sounding promising. Good luck with this one :T

Take it to the ombudsman who'll over - rule / agree with their findings. Mine is fairly cast iron. I can remember the bloke saying I couldn't have the loan without it because of my age.

My brother got £000's back on his mortgage. He is self employed and PPI never covered him! No place to hide on a mortgage application. Got a letter of apology too.

Just wanting to say a quick hello I am a long term self managed DMP person.

On subject of PPI thanks to Mr Lewis I was in a couple of national newspapers about 5 years ago, got to go for it nothing to loose and even easier these days :)

Cheers Rayday, I was surprised how easy it was with Lloyds I must admit. They were very helpful! :)

    Hi rayday2 :hello:

Hope you don't mind me asking if you started off your DMP self managed or did you start with a company and then move to self managed?

    Thanks for your help

Well I was a bit of a numpty really, I went on the National debtline website back in 2006 just used their letters and changed my bank account. Back then I didn't even know about linked accounts but luckily my choice was fine. Then a couple of years later I found this website and realised that I was actually on a DMP - didn't know what they were! So cutting a long story short - did it on my own from the beginning and got all my interests stopped and even some refunded. Worst ones to deal with have been catalogue companies, took one of them to financial ombudsman last year and won to get them to agree and looks like I will have to again, but thems the breaks!

Are you just setting out or with a company and wanting to go solo?
  • Hi, there are many companies who can help you manage your debts some are a free services (CCCS) leaving you will a lot of the work to do in terms of negotiating with the people you have debts with and some do the work for you (DFH,Gregory Pennington etc) and you pay a fee for them to do this -

Your choice is if you can face dealing with the people who your debts are with - some are helpful - some less so - and it can take time and some people can't face it. There are views either way on this.

What you need to ensure is that the company has a consumer credit license are members of a trade body like the CCTA or DESMA, so if you have any major problems you have somewhere to turn

Good luck with your debts and remember you are now thinking about a way to sort them - so this is a good thing whatever your decide to do
