Washing soda is much more alkaline and hence a more effective cleaning agent. You can actually convert sodium bicarbonate to sodium carbonate by heating it and getting rid of the carbon dioxide but it's not worth the hassle because it's easily obtainable and probably cheaper than the sodium bicarbonate anyway. I buy mine in Home Bargains but I have seen it in Tesco for less than £1 per bag.
Am dying to know how you get on, we need whiteness tests and before and after photos
Gahhh! I read loads and loads and i knew that they were two different substances (and also that you could convert one to the other by heating) but I was sure I'd got the right one. OH well, I'm sure it'll come in useful. I'll need to go find a Home Bargains and see if I can find the washing soda then (and have a look in Tesco), but I might heat the bicarb and convert what I've got. I'm pretty sure I've seen yummy recipes for peanut brittle, etc, that need baking soda, so it won't go to waste!0 -

LOL. I now have visions of myself getting carted off. Maybe I should take our wee camper into the middle of nowhere in a Breaking Bad-esque manner and 'cook' my washing detergent there! :rotfl:0 -
Hello everyone, hope you're all well.
Not been on here for a bit and currently feeling tired, run down and fed up. You were on page 143 I think last time I posted, now 151 so I think I've got some reading to catch up on. Realised all I had to do was look on here for cheering up as you are all loony and make me laugh. First thing I saw on my return was something about being arrested for making your own wash powder! :rotfl:I boiled my DD's socks in a pan last week to get them clean so I fit in well with this one! My friends thought I'd lost the plot.:D
So DS birthday went well. He loves his bike and he had a great party on Sunday at a discounted rate that I managed to wangle. (Not that anyone noticed - the playcentre did me proud.) We got our cheque from DH's elderly relatives, paid for car repairs, and it looks as though this month we should scrape by without dipping into emergency fund (just). Not sure what we would have done without that cheque.
So I've written this month off and in my mind our dmp is starting for real next month. Unfortunately we got a letter from Barclaycard saying they are sticking to their reduced interest rate. It's only 6.9% but they are the only creditor, so far, to add interest. I feel like writing again and saying "ok, that's your perogative, but I hope you understand that as you are being unfair to our other creditors, should we be able to make any overpayments they will be going to them, not you."
Well I'm off for another lemsip and early night for me tonight methinks. Hopefully I'll be full of beans on my return0 -
Awwwwww Tigsmom, I wondered where you had been, sorry you are feeling under the weather. _pale_
Shall I send Grand Benders around with her chemistry set? She can make you feel better with a magic potion or two :rotfl:
We are already full of beans because that is all we have got to eat
Yep we are all being daft at the moment and hope you will be back joining in very soon. Take careLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Hi All
Time for a quick update.
Well, had to bite the bullet with Everyday Loans and give them their 6th payment so that they would agree to the DMP, but they aren't getting paid until end of the month when the wife gets paid. Pretty sure they could have accepted the DMP with 5 payments made but just want everything to go smoothly.
Spoke to the CCCS today, they just wanted to clarify a few details. Glad to say everything is fine and they are now contacting our creditors and setting up our DMP.
Have agreed a DMP start date of the 1st November, so token payments will be sent out to creditors for October.
Feels like a huge weight has been lifted, both me and the missus had a little cry of releif that our debts are finally getting sorted and can look forward to the new baby knowing that she won't be starting her little life with us struggling.
Have to say our other two daughters have been amazing throught all this even though they are only 9 and 6. Never complaing when we could not afford things for them and appreciating the little things we got for them when we could.
Heres to a brighter future and good luck to others on DMP's.:):)

Thanks to all on MSE. :T0 -
Great news Stuart :T
Kids are remarkably adaptable. I recently took my granddaughter shopping, she picked up a £12 toy and asked could she have it, I quickly put it back explaining we could not afford it but sneaked a reduced bubble set at 50p into the basket when she wasn't looking. I gave it to her outside the shop and she was absolutely delighted, played with it all day and has had lots of refills using Aldi's superb washing up liquid sinceLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin
