My head feels mashed. I just feel like I want to run away and never come back.

    Happy payday :)

I know someone said recently that car insurance was a credit agreement, you see. Does that mean we need to tell the CCCS first or something?

Am wonder this now too as we have both house insurances on a credit plan, the car and motorbike insurance and the boiler cover! The boiler cover and house insurance renewal were both taken out after signing up to Payplan.

I'm hoping we can get enough money together to get off the credit cycle for insurances BUT that'll be a whole lot of money to get together :S

  • Hi all and welcome to the new people.

Not much to report here except that I have taken out a new phone contract which, with the refund things every three months, works out at £1.51 per month with enough texts and minutes for my usage. This is a great saving and cheaper than a PAYG deal. I was worried the contract wouldn't go through, as they did do a credit check but amazingly it did.

On the insurance thing, I've changed house, car and pet insurance while being on DMP and it's been no problem. You could always ask Pavan and Matt up on the ask a debt counsellor a question thread on the top of the DFW forum.

Onwards and upwards - it's nearly spring :rotfl:

    Happy payday :)

    lol thanks.
It's a bit of a relief, although today I woke with a feeling of doom.
It's probably a feeling of dread for the MOT tomorrow..

  • If I am at the very beginning of starting a dmp and my next round of debts start to come out on 1st feb, when do you advise
stopping the direct debits and just sending them a token payment?
Also how long does it usually take to set up a new bank account?
  • Hi All

Just wanted to let you know I posted on the 'ask an advisor' thread about getting insurance on pay monthly rather than in 1 lump sum. It's fine with CCCS and doesn't break the terms of the plan if you pay monthly and shop around for insurance etc.
HTH some of you who were wondering. I'm certainly relieved.

  • Morning everyone.

My husband's wage is increasing in April and I wanted to use some of this for an emergency fund as we currently don't have one, and to slightly increase our shopping budget as it's a little tight with having two under ones (getting through alot of nappies, plus follow on milk) Do you think CCCS would be ok with this? Will ring them but just thought I'd mention on here first!

It should be fine, but you may need to declare the wage increase at some stage, perhaps at the next review...

You should pay token payments of £1 to each creditor, each month until the DMP payments start.

Cancel all DDs to your creditors, though beware that if you have any credit debts with your current bank, then they can reinstate the DD to 'offset', that is continue to take their monthly payment. This can even happen if your bank account has been 'frozen' or you are over your overdraft limit.

A new bank account can be setup in a week or two I think.

  • I thought I'd come and say hi, as I have just taken out a DMP with CCCS.

I got into a mess with credit cards (bloody cash advances!), catalogues and an old overdraft which generated a load of charges. I used to be able to scrape by, borrowing and moving stuff around, but then I got pregnant. I am getting basic maternity pay, but it's not much to live on. CCCS have set up my plan for £50 a month for now, but I am hoping that once my maternity leave is over I will be earning a bit more and can pay it off quicker. Otherwise it's going to take 7 years!

Once I've paid my mortgage, DMP and food I'm not going to have much wriggle room! My husband works full-time, but I like to be quite independent financially, and he already takes care of a lot of bills. It's scary TBH, but a massive relief. I'm looking forward to feeling in control of things. The scary phone calls have almost stopped, and I no longer dread getting the mail. I just wish it hadn't taken me so long to sort things out!
