DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 8

  • Hi all, havent been on here for a while because Ive had some health issues which are still ongoing.................

My daughter turned 18 and is moving to Uni, although coming home most weekends to check up on me and her dad. My CB and CTC have dropped by over £60 a week and with some other changes my payment has dropped from £550 to £123 a month - I dread to think what the creditors will say. That said, when I saw that our major creditor Barclaycard (£16k of £26k debt) is still charging us 7% interest Im now seriously considering bankruptcy on my debts alone. Its going to take me 15 years + to pay this off and now feel like why should I give them anything when they have plied on the interest over the years and still want their pound of flesh. I asked for help so often from them and had nothing back.

Sorry, just having a real down day today. I was so full of optimism at the thought of being debt free in 4 or 5 years and now it seems further away than ever.
I don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.
    Bipolar for all
  • Hi The Mangler :hello:

Please don't say sorry, this thread is for support and you really sound like you need some right now :(

Have you ever complained directly to Barclaycard about the added interest? If not, I would do so right now. If you have already complained, I would take it to the FOS. They are open on Saturday mornings so you could ring today

You could also speak to CCCS about your options, maybe an IVA or bankruptcy would be a better option but they are the experts so must be able to advise you.

I am really sorry about your ongoing health issues, I know from personal experience how this can get you down, and with everything else going on at the moment, it must all feel too much. I can't offer you anything but a virtual hug :)

    HI there
Ive been on a dmp with CCCS for past 4 years now, paid off nearly 10K:D but still owe 27:eek:
We may be getting a small lump sum soon from a relative. Are we able to make offers to any of the creditors? We owe to 8, of which some are less than £500 , so was hoping to pay off a few with this money?
Not sure if we are allowed to do this to some and not all?

Thanks for any help before I speak with CCCS

The official response is it should be offered to all but in reality many do just do it to few. This is particularly done when the money is only available for a short time and when the relative has insisted it must only be used for x and y creditor. Your remaining DMP monthly payment that would have gone to the ones you are just about to pay off will be shared amongst the ones you have left.

Good luck. Please remember to let us know how you get on.

Shouldn't you two be fiddling with your spreadsheets

I have been extremely busy with my spreadsheets I'll have you know:cool: I have four family birthdays this month, one of them a 'big' one involving a trip to visit the rellies in the big smoke. I have been readjusting my budgets, playing with the variances and trying to find money to pay for the petrol:eek:
Hi everyone. Ianmark's comment inspired me to say hello and get myself back into posting mode. My DMP is still rolling along nicely with only the odd blip here and there.

 Hi ST, nice to see you. Glad the DMP is still going well.:)
    Hey all

IanMak and StandingTall's visit made me think I should pop in and say hi too.

:hello: Hi SAAC. Nice to see you too. You were my inspiration to start a filing system that didn't involve carrier bags:rotfl:

So that's now 5 out of 13 creditors we have heard from and they have all accepted the DMP - Brilliant news!

Tomorrow is our first payment to CCCS and like Talisker we're looking forward to getting on with a life without worrying every day about how we're going to get by until the next pay day.

A Woo Hoo and well done to you as well:D

Seriously, what is going on today?! - my wife received a letter this morning from HMRC saying that she is entitled to an income tax refund and they have enclosed a cheque for £233.... Everything is going far too right just now.... whats the catch...?!?

Clearly my sacrificial burning last week to the Gods of Prosperity is working. Only took three debt collection agency call operators.... less than usual this month.....

....sorry, did I say that out loud?

Yes you did - but we won't tell anyone. :lipsrseal

Great news Hunnies. It really is the first step to a new life.

Good luck with getting the rest of your creditors on board, i'm sure they all will. I've been so surprised at how easy its been (so far!). Its great that so many of of us are starting at the same time.

Well done everyone. Can I add to the joy and tell you I've just won a family ticket to a theme park today? The kids are really excited! Just need car to pass MOT on Monday so we can get there :rotfl:Hope you are all having a great weekend. It's nice to lift the spirits every now and again (keep burning Talisker ;))
  • Fantastic news on the theme park ticket win Tigsmom :j

Well done to all DMPers starting out this month, may your journey to debt free land be painless and quick :T

My spreadsheets are abandoned for a glass of Aldi wine and an episode or two of The Tudors. A current guilty pleasure :o

Had a bad day today, my daughter spent £50 on a pair of shoes for my granddaughter which will be lucky to last her 3 months. It took us 5.5 hours in a very busy and crowded city centre to find these shoes. I kept thinking how much food I could buy with that or how I could pay it off a debt. Then I crowned the day off by either leaving £30 in a ATM or losing it in Tesco. Oh well, worse things happen at sea

Tomorrow is another day and will be a good one :)

Oh no! Sorry about the £30, that's awful. I know what you mean about the shoes - are they the ones advertised on tv with changeable straps and a free cheap plastic gift worth 99p?:rotfl:
My daughter keeps asking for them but I tell her I can buy 5 pairs of her usual shoes for the same money. The gifts are all on ebay from HK for pennies. When I'm looking for clothes for her I check out Next for the latest fashions and then look around for cheaper look-a-likes. She likes to be 'trendy' but I think I do a good job making her look the part for less. Next has animal print and tutus at the moment. I've bought animal print from Primark and tutus from ebay HK! It wouldn't surprise me if Next don't get theirs from the same manufacturer but sell for more profit.

Enjoy your wine and I hope you find a way to claw your money back. Maybe you can sell your grandaughters shoes on ebay when she's outgrown them?;)
