Grrrrr trying to be OS in using up my freezer contents, so early this morning put some silverside in the slow cooker. Just tasted it (having had it cooking for over 12 hrs) and it tastes like cardboard. Neighbour (chef type) says that only good thing for silverside is to put in a pie. So there goes todays OS. Instead will feed the boys ...... quick sandwich or something....
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • I use silverside for best and slow roast it in water in the oven for a few hours - in the slow cooker i always put brisket (the cheaper the cut the nicest it is in the slow cooker i find) - if i were you i would carve it and rehydrate it but adding it to a pan of gravy and it will be fine :) silverside in a pie..??? that is what braising steak is for lol

    Hello all

Trying to save money - petrol and parking - and make most of nice weather cycled to town to go to bank before work, it only took me half and hour and as I only had handbag could not buy much so just got couple of birthday cards, then on to work. Feeling quite pleased with myself.

WM been on and washing been out, DW will go on after dinner which will be wraps with veg I have that needs using up, worked out quite well with meal plan this week, just enough left for tonight and tomorrow will do weekly shop. Usually go to one of the bigger stores as have 3 within couple of miles but think I will try Lidl, its not too far and sure what I save on bill will more than make up for petrol used.

JulieG, try planning something non labour related and you never know, I had just finished work (in the days where you had to leave 6 weeks before due date), went swimming and was planning long dog walks, lots of nesting activities and shopping for last minute baby bits when I went into labour that night. DH had to walk dog and shop for nappies etc.

Tru if you need crew for your ship I have frilly shirt, stripy socks and can say "Garr" loudly!

Thoughts to those who need them.
    Thoughts to all. Mrs D.
