My wife works at the DWP and she is waiting to hear about her promotion for 3 weeks. I am still waiting for the EO!! Well she goes into work today after being off for two weeks to have a letter waiting for her from the head of the district of London and Home counties. They have apologised for the delay in all the recruitments and this is what was said about the EO recruitment for this area, the letter was dated the 13/4/12.

Within London and the Home Counties, the EO interviews are virtually complete with only a few mop up interviews remaining still to take place. HR are now actively working through the process of making posting decisions and expect that subsequent offers will start to be made during the next couple of weeks.
Our procedures state that offers to external applicants will be subject to successful completion of pre-appointment checks; this action will be taken accordingly.

Hope this helps as the waiting is killing me !!!

May be its like offering the average high scores 37 and over, a job offer in their home region.
Every 37+ will get a home region priority,Assuming all candidates securing 37+will be offered a position. In that case these two district may have filled only few posts and the rest might be filled after all results in the uk are counted and listed .

It may not be the case , which makes the merit system flawed.
This is what concerns me. I don't actually WANT to work in my home region, I'd much prefer the one next door. Bizzarely it's much more convenient to use public transport to get there than it is to stay local :/

Totally agree. However I have been told that some of the vacancies have been filled with surplus staff, which was an exercise DWP hoped to complete before he jobs announcement was made in January. However the government wanted an announcement to deflect from poor news on the jobs front so pushed the announcement forward.

I suspect that there would have been a good few less posts had the surplus exercise been allowed to run prior to the announcement. There would also have been a more exact number in each region, instead of the regularly used “between 60 and 100 posts”.

Also, surplus staff don’t need to apply, they just need to be job matched, which is why some people feel that poorer qualified people may be taking the jobs, but only on level transfer and not promotion. I have to agree again that this is most likely the case.

Last point; I work in another government department and I know of around 15 people who applied from my area; people who really felt they were good enough. I am the only person in my area that got through the selection process without getting dropped at sift, test or interview (with scores of 3 or less). So there is definitely no favouritism that I can see.

From my office 8 applied only 1 got an interview and they did pass interview but with quite low scores. Those of us who failed at test/sift etc had either done the job before from the last recruitment or acted up or work on the front line so I can asure everyone on here that has applied from outside the dept we have had no special treatment. One aside none of the surplus staff have been put in post as yet as far as I know and no one in the office seems to know what's going on either. The youth programme started on the 2nd and we thought that was what the new staff were being bought in to work on but existing staff are now carrying out this job so I presume the new staff will now backfill, meaning they will advise the 25+ customers. Also add onto the wait the 3 months training and it may be Sept before the new staff are let loose on the public. I thought the wait was long last time but at least we knew we has been sucessful just had to wait months for a post but this must be agony for all of you. Good luck and I hope you hear soon.

Hi, I'm waiting to hear from the Tyne and Wear area. The last I heard when I rang them about a month ago, would be that the results would be issued once all interviews country wide had been completed and this was expected to be on or around the 4th April (I believe that they finished last week as there were some "mop up" interviews still taking place in other areas). I was told that messages would be issued through the CS site. The estimated time frame for this (at that time) was the second or third week in April. As the second week has now been and gone, I would imagine that we will probably hear something in the next two weeks or so. I'm hopeful that results will be issued this week but in view of how prolonged this process has been, I am anticipating that it will be nearer the end of the month or early May. Very annoying, as I was told at my interview that the results would be issued on 21st March.

I'm trying not to be too impatient about it all, as in my experience, when applying for civil service jobs it generally seems to take between 5-6 months from the application close date, to actually starting "in post". However, even kowing this, it's becoming increasingly difficult not to be impatient. It feels like a life-time since my interview on 13th March !!

It's been nothing but mis-information. I interviewed a week before you and was told that only two panels were interviewing on the Thursday of that week as that was the end of the interviews. Now I hear that you interviewed a week later. I was also told that the results were planned for 21-03 but may be delaye by up to a week. Ha!

Quite frustrating. Why the hell don't they just issue an all applicant e mail explaining the current position from someone a lot higher than the help (less) line.

Cos it makes too much sense!

well to be honest I am writing this off as a lost cause. If I get an offer, then great, if I don't, well at the very least its a learning curve.

I got good results in the test, the application form and the interview, so I figure I must be doing something right which is good to know, so I've been applying for other jobs too. Unfortunately these are also with the civil service lol

I must admit I'm not such a great fan of the competency based application forms and interviews, simply because there is no scientific way to weigh the evidence with any consistency or accuracy, (that is a fact by the way and not just my personal opinion) consequently this method of recruitment is inherently flawed and will eliminate a large number of excellent candidates, simply because they are not experienced in what amounts to little more than a writing exercise. Of course no method is 100% but to base a decision on what amounts to a story about an event or series of events, and to disregard everything else isn't a particularly reliable way to guage some-one's experience, qualifications or work history or even their ability to do the job for that matter.

My heart truly goes out to those excellent candidates who didn't get through, or didn't get good interview scores, simply because they didn't use the right phrases or include the current "buzz words", where as those far less qualified or experienced and even far less capable, may have done, simply because they were coached in what to say and how to say it.

Never the less, if these are the hoops they want us to jump through, then jump though them I will... (and indeed did) and of course if I get offered a position, I won't be complaining (or holding my breath) x

Thanks, i know what you mean, one civil service job i had was a year between application and start date, just keeping fingers crossed to hear about this sooner than that! :)

Souk you took the words out of my mouth!! If I didn't want this job so badly I would withdraw my application just on principal - not that it would matter to them or even be noticed.
