I have to agree. If I remember correctly, my advisor told me about these positions back in January (Maybe February). I took one look at the specifications and knew it wasn't for me, but surely they would have had the roles filled by now. Is it being managed centrally from London?

Yup, same here, but I was actually TOLD to apply by my then advisor....

So applied, got the interview invite, booked a slot but got a job offer from another place (NHS - wanted to get back into nhs anyway) so took it and pulled out from the DWP process....

The NHS job was advertised long after the DWP one was and as I mentioned earlier - I have started the job on 12th March ..

What DWP is doing would be funny - if it was not affecting so many people's lives...

I hope they realise the painful situations they're putting a lot of us in. I already had a job when I applied but during the process I've been promoted so now I'm doing a more satisfying job for more money. And I can't really enjoy it in case I have to leave for another promotion.

    HI Folk

The marking has been high and a high number have been give to internal candidates, even if they r poor

Oh I can assure you, THAT isn't the case. I know many DWP people who scored poorly in this exercise, receiving 3's 4's and 5's ... they weren't treated any better than external applicants.
  • All this talk of internal candidates getting special treatment is rubbish, im internal and most of the internal candidates I kno of didn't get thru the sift never mind the interview. Those of us that did havent got the best scores in the world, I got 4,5,6,6,7. Almost everythijng on here is jst rumour nd spjeculation

Totally agree. However I have been told that some of the vacancies have been filled with surplus staff, which was an exercise DWP hoped to complete before he jobs announcement was made in January. However the government wanted an announcement to deflect from poor news on the jobs front so pushed the announcement forward.

I suspect that there would have been a good few less posts had the surplus exercise been allowed to run prior to the announcement. There would also have been a more exact number in each region, instead of the regularly used “between 60 and 100 posts”.

Also, surplus staff don’t need to apply, they just need to be job matched, which is why some people feel that poorer qualified people may be taking the jobs, but only on level transfer and not promotion. I have to agree again that this is most likely the case.

Last point; I work in another government department and I know of around 15 people who applied from my area; people who really felt they were good enough. I am the only person in my area that got through the selection process without getting dropped at sift, test or interview (with scores of 3 or less). So there is definitely no favouritism that I can see.

I have been informed that for one district that their cut off is 37 for the merit list.

but they are still looking into it.

Is that the case for North or East London? - Please don't leave us hanging!

While I suspect I'm out of the running anyway, I have not heard anything official yet. I applied for GLED district, Glasgow Lanarkshire blah blah blah. Still not a word. My JCP advisor suggested to me last week that I'm better off out of it anyway.

That's all well and good, but I'm now past the 12 months since Iwas made redundant and have been referred to the work programme. Oh joy. The DWP have no idea what they have done to us over the past three months. A former civil servant, good degree and shed loads of experience, it's a shame Im over 25, the new project sure aint gonna help me back into work.

    Rant over, sorry. xx

I'm sad (but not overly surprised) that your advisor would suggest to you that you're better off out of it...or on the dole as the advisor was obviously implying. It goes to show the lethargy that some people have in posts where they need to empathetic and supportive and not diminishing the hopes and dreams of people like you who don't have the good fortune to be working, like they are, but would dearly love to do so.

I hope you DO get a post and end up showing that individual that you can make a difference and that their indifference was well misplaced.

Still not sure how this is going to work with multiple applications to multiple locations then... if west scotland have returned results and given offers, surely they should have looked at the lists from other areas next to it to make sure that they had all the application scores for that area?? So surely other areas in Scotlan at least, should have a merit list....??1

Or did our other applications get thrown out and we're now stuck with our 'home' region?

May be its like offering the average high scores 37 and over, a job offer in their home region.
Every 37+ will get a home region priority,Assuming all candidates securing 37+will be offered a position. In that case these two district may have filled only few posts and the rest might be filled after all results in the uk are counted and listed .

It may not be the case , which makes the merit system flawed.

The waiting has indeed been too long. I have been wondering about some of the others as well...who followed this forum until interviews were held but never informed us how they got on. Has anyone heard anything from the Birmingham & Black Country region at all?
